    PS3 Wireless Headset

My wife got me the "new" PS3 wireless jumbo "i have a side job landing planes" headset. She paid $99 for them at Gamestop and surprised me with them so I didn't have the heart to say they are $89 or less on Amazon and BestBuy. Really great of her. Last game night I had, she was real glad I got back down to play after so long so I think this was her hint to have me continue doing it.. Well, plus Caleb would rather watch me play than to watch Real Housewives of Orange County upstairs so it gives her some peace. Lol.

So these things are nice, huh? Can I use them to watch movies as well because without a real stereo system down there, I either have the choice of not hearing people talk or to drown out even the upstairs with action scenes. Lol.

Cool! It's always nice to have a backup job when you need it. Yep, the headset works with movies too. It used to not support the virtual surround mode in movies, but it does now after the 4.20 PS3 firmware. Vdub and I really like them. Homer didn't like them, but does Homer really like anything?!?

Homer must hav enot got them first. Homer only likes things that he discovers. The whole Colombus mentallity. "Yeah, I found America but Inidians are already there. They all like it but it is just too big. I don't get the whole thing. I'm probably just going to trade it in."

    First Use:

I used them and I enjoyed them. I don't think there is much more to say on it but I will try. I did feel as if I got a humming noise out of them. Seemed to only be noticable at lower volumes. Once I turned the volume up, it seemed to drown it out. As I was waiting for people to show, I had the volume down and it was a little bit annoying.

Since the ear part completely covers the ears, it does not touch them but rather touches the head. That makes it a lot more comfortable after long game sessions.

The mic starts off small and I believed that was just how it was. But upon touching it and feeling the ridges, I came to find out that with the right manipulation, you can have a fully erected mic. At first, it went to a medium length but as I pulled harder on it, soon the mic was right by my mouth... waiting to respond each time I opened it.

One major concern is that I could hear every word VDub said..... Fin.

The humming noise is from the new'ish Sidetone feature they added. If you have it turned on, the mic is always on even in Single Player when there is no mic support. You can change the Sidetone settings to completely turn it off if that bothers you. I got used to it not being there (there was no Sidetone originally), hated it when they added it and it couldn't be turned off, and now I'm torn between leaving it on or off. I like the quality better with it off, but I wind up talking a lot louder if it's off now that I got used to having it there.

Do you change the setting with a simple button or switch or do you have to go into the settings on the PS3?

It's in the XMB menu on the PS3. I think it's under Accessory Settings or something like that? It's where you set your Mic input levels. You can click Triangle in there to get the Sidetone settings.
