Yeah man. Clans are just a way of playing together with a core "team" against other "teams". You can stat track and join tournaments. You can either get invited to join a clan or make one yourself and invite other friends to join.
So, for example, if I created The Super Ultimate Clan of Justice and Misery (TSUCOJAM) and you wanted to join, I'd shoot you an invite, and then we'd be on the same team. Then we could come up with a three letter Clan Tag which would preceed our Gamer Tags in Game.
For example if we were in that clan and our Tag was JAM (Justice and Misery) I would be [JAM] Dr Scares and you would be [JAM] RANJENKILLER. And then we'd be totally sweet because we would be together and could reek havoc.
So, to summarise, clans are just ways to compete with other clans. They are a good way to stay competitive with your friends and do bro type things. Some are serious and have practices and tournaments all the time, some are laid back and just play simply for fun. When it comes down to that, you pick your poision.
Hope that helps a little :-)
thank you for the reply. Yes it helps a little, but what I am trying to figure out is there an option in the game that you start a clan in, is it just a friends list etc. Like it says halo 2 will have a 100 member clan max, so If we made the above jam clan, how would we start a game in say BF.Is there an option in the BF menu, or do I invite friends from a list that I know are on the clan.Originally Posted by DrScares"

Ah, ok. Clans are a fairly new thing in the XBox Live world, not all games incorporate them. So BF (Battlefront I assume), you can't have clans because BF doesn't support XBox Live 3.0 (the clan features.)
In fact, the only game out right now that does support XBL Clans is Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow.
From BA's in game menu there is an option to create a clan. And if someone from another clan sends you an invite, that will appear in a menu as well. Recruitment or something to that sort.
But again, its only games with clan support that support this kind of thing. And as of now, its only BA. Halo 2 will also supports clans though, but each clan isdependent oneach game. IE, you can't bring your BA clan over to Halo 2. I mean, you can, but it won't automatically be there.
Thank you very much, that answers alot of questions.
One of the other thigns with clans is that it will be game dependent. For instance, I am in AGE2 for RS3:BA. This will not carry over to Halo 2 or any other game that supports XBL 3.0 features.
My 2 cents...
Clans on Live are still very much in the developmental stage. BA mucked up several aspects of clans.
- You can't just get your crew together and play a clan match on a whim. You have to schedule matches at least 24 hours in advance.
- The clan match scheduling system is not flexible enough with regards to times or opponents.
- There is no way to arrange a match with similarly ranked players or clans (this option is rife with potential sandbagging problems).
- A tournament can take several hours if you make it to the later rounds, and there is no way to prevent this from happening.
I played in several BA tournaments, and I was thoroughly not impressed. I would much rather just play with AGE members.
Halo 2 seems to address some of these issues, but I imagine that the Halo 2 system will have it's own problems (e.g., not enough control over who you play). Regardless, I am sure that you will have fun in clan matches with
Anyway, my guess is that it will take at least a year or so before the clan aspects of 3.0 get consistently implemented in a constructive way for casual gamers. As such, the current clan implementations are really just practice for the wonders that will be in the future.
