New Xbox Experience - Friends List Worse?

Take a look at the video. My observations:

1.) I still REALLY hate the avatars at this point. Way too cutesy for me.

2.) Check out the friends page now. I'm up in the air on this one. On one hand its cool to see your friends categorized by what games they're playing, but at the same time I think that makes it much harder to find specific friends that you might play with alot. At least with the list it had an order to it because every name was alphabetized, now its almost like you'd have to GUESS which game your buddy is playing to get into a game with him. I'm not so sure I like the way they have this layed out.

Aaron Greenberg, group product manager for Xbox 360, may not have been
wearing a velvet smoking jacket, but he still had some pretty sexy
stuff to show off today in a hotel room opposite the convention hall
today. Greenberg walked a group of journalists through a demonstration
of the live and kicking New Xbox Live experience. Showing us a bit
about avatar creation, how friends will show up in the 3D world and how
games, movies and such will be listed. We even got to see a couple of
environments.

I actually think it looks cool and will be fun to use. Personally, I see myselfspending a lot of time playingaround with the avatars.

Or even better yet, the potential to sort your friends however you want, alphabetical, game playing, whatever...

You can do that and see everyone but Bourbon who will be playing dess up with his avatar all night.

I'm interested to see how this work with some of the massive 100 person friends lists we have around here. Every demo I've seen so far has been with people that have like 7 friends. I imagine sorting through avatars in the Gears of War section on a Gears of War gamenight will be pretty tough to distinguish one person from the other when we're looking at 40 clumped up together. I mean sure, maybe a couple (Bourbon's flamboyantly gay avatar, for instance) will stand out but with the limited customization on these things it's going to be hard to pick people out.

Of course, this is all probably moot anyway since I'd imagine that the friends list when you press the xbox guide button will still be in a list format. And that's the one you'll have to use when you're inviting people to a game anyway.
