Xbox 360 to computer monitor?

Anyone try hooking an Xbox 360 to a computer monitor? Of course, I think this would work only if you're sitting right in front of the monitor at a desk (like you would a PC).

I'm looking at maybe a 22" wide-screen monitor ($200) - and wondering if it's worth extra money to get larger 24" wide-screen monitor ($300). Anything larger than those, and you might as well geta 26" HDTV ($400).

And if you're sitting up close, than a 22" might be fine maybe? And at only $200 bucks that's a lot cheaper.

Right now, due to how my wife and I like the room setup in our house, the Xbox is in the extra room connected tothe 27" ordinary TV, and the Wii is in the family room connected tothe 47" HDTV. The first 6 months I had my Xbox it was connected to the 47" HDTV -- so now to me the 27" regular TV looks like crap!

I have a 22 inch I use for short gaming sessions when I don't feel like turning on the projector. It works great. I usually pull up a chair and sit pretty close but it serves my need.

Thanks Boomer. I assume it's a wide-screen, but other than that nothing special?

I see two 22" wide-screen at Costco for $200, which seems like a good price:

What about connectors? I'm guessing an ordinary VGA cable?

Yes. It is a Dell 22 widescreen. My projector runs at 1280 x 768 so I run that resolution on the 22 inch as well and it looks great. I use the 360 VGA cable for both the monitor and projector. I haven't bought a splitter yet so I just unplug from one into the other.

Ihave a 22"HP W2207 and love it. I decided on that size because there was too big of a price difference between the 22" and 24" monitors. It has built in speakers, but don't expect much out of them. They produce sound, but that's about all I can really say about them.

I have a 24" at home and a 22" at work. No practical difference. I'd go with the 22". It's amazing how cheap they are nowadays...

I used to game on my monitor too and loved it. It has component connections though so I used them.

That's the biggest difference I've seen in the 22" and 24". The 24" usually have many more connection options.

I have a 20.1" Sceptre that accepts 1080P (scales/crops it to native which is 1050p) and I prefer it over the big screen. I have no analog artifacts with this monitor and have only minor blurring that is apparent on games that aren't 60 frames/sec during very fast motion scenes.

If you can find one, I would look for something in the 2ms refresh range but those specs should be just fine.

Also, don't forget to adjust the (Black) Reference Levels (Display Settings) once you hook it up so that you get nice deep blacks

For reference ... here is the 22" version of my panel ...

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824112009

I like the fact that mine accepts 1080p (16:9) and scales/crops to 1050p (16:10) ... I used the menu adjustments to crop a little off the sides (or was it top and bottom) so that I maintained the correct aspect ratio ... alternatively I could have "squeezed" it all into the 16:10 picture.

I think every widescreen computer monitor I have come across is native 16:10 so you will always have some black bars when playing games at the correct 16:9 aspect ratio.. it's never been an issue for me though. I play on a 24" monitor which is 1920x1200 so it displays 1080 just fine. I think the 360 VGA cable gives you an excellent picture as well, although I have noticed more and more monitors coming out with HDMI conections lately.
