Surround Sound 360 Headset Options

I am considering asking the wife for a surround sound headset for my 360 for x-mas this year. I know quite a few people have the Tritton headset and speak quite well about the product, but I ama little leary b/c of all the adjusting you have to do to get the sound right. I am by no means an audiophile and will just have to search for someone else's settings via the web. Knowing this I was curious if any AGErs have a recommendation for the Tritton or any other headset out there. This is for x-mas so I don't mind asking for something on the expensive end This headset definitely has to allow me to chat with friends via live, but other than that I am open to different products.

Thanks

I was just thinking about the same thing when I saw this post, I'm thinking about asking for a pair as well so I don't have to shock and awe my 'lill one to death.

Babalou posted a nice review of the Earforce X3 a while back which is what I would be interested in...

Everyone that has the Tritton's absolutely love them. They say the surround sound works great and the voice chat is clear. The only issues were the fact that it has a decoder unit which needs a plug and is wired. Not much you can do there. AFAIK, the X3's are not surround sound, just binaural.

Also look out for headsets claming to be surround when the only simulate surround. There are only two that I have seen on the market that work with the 360 (live chat and all).

the X3's might not be surround sound but they are very very nice. I have a sony surrond sound systemand there is not much difference between thatand the headset. As a matter of fact the headset is much better tohear the little things like someone talking in the background or stuff happening arround you.If you go that way I recommend geting rechargeable AAA batteries.

Just be careful if you use the chatpad as the X3's do not support it.

I was thinking of asking for a pair of these for xmas as well (although would the wife support my gaming habit? hmm) anyway, as far as I can tell, there is no such thing as a wireless, 5.1 suorround, xbox live compatible headset available at any price right? So would you rather ditch the wireless or the surround sound?

If most of what I'm playing on live are FPS's, then I would think surround is more important?

Went a little smiley-happy there, eh Soldan? [:P]

I have the Tritton X360s but I haven't used them for a while. While I loved them initially, I found them to be a real PITA to set up for each game. Switching between games became a hassle. I could never seem to acheive a good balance between voice chat sound levels and in-game sound levels. The voicechat function seemed to be tied to center channel volume in Shadowrun, but I think it was tied to the rear channel in Gears. I was able to get Shadowrun to work very well, but Gears never worked out as I'd hoped. Maybe I'll give 'em another shot with COD4 and see how that plays out. I'll update this once I spend some more time with them again.
