Weapon favorites and recommendations

I wouldn't share this with the GP, because I think it's going to be a very overlooked weapon, but I wanted to tell you about a gun that I found seriously increased my kill numbers: the G3 assault rifle.

Most people will notice the bad first, the way I did. Although it's an assault rifle, it's single-shot, meaning you have to keep pulling the trigger like a pistol to fire a few rounds. The fire rate isn't blinding but it's relatively quick for the kind of gun it is. I initially balked at trying to use that when I was doing so well with my ACOG-equipped M4, and I bet most people will feel the same.. but the G3 is a gun with some special tricks up it's sleeve.

The thing has the accuracy of a sniper rifle at long range, with none of the recoil, ammo, or reload restrictions. Once you get the red dot sight it becomes insanely useful. as long as you can see a guy (as a tiny little dot running across the map) you can pick him off no matter how far away you are. Obviously the single shot mechanism makes it harder to shoot in close combat but I'd say at least half my kills were pretty close quarters, the gun does good damage at all ranges.

The downside is that the ACOG seriously hampers this gun's accuracy, so it's as worthless as it is on a sniper.

Basically the gun is the perfect balance of an assault rifle and sniper rifle, capable of 90% of the usefulness of more traditional guns in either class.

And please, lets not talk this gun up to the GP.. let it be our secret weapon. =)

Anyone else have favorite weapons, especially ones that people might not necessarily know is a good one? Tell us what makes it awesome.

Ya know i had balked at this gun durring the beta testing (i only had brief experience with it cause its unlocked somewhere round level 24 or 25). But i happened to see a Modern Marvels show about it. And the whole show was about the G3 and how its replacing the M16 as the standard US military gun, because of many of the reasons you just described. No recoil, and sniper like accuracy. In fact they showed a sniper hitting a target from a couple hundred yards away with the Red dot scope (which is apparently built right into the barrel of the real G3). I think i seem to remember the real gun having a switch between single burst and semi burst....but i could be wrong about that.

Its not a mystery.....but i truely think the Mp5 is a very under rated gun. I think a lotta people over look it just because its not a unlocked gun, and theres 'upgrades' beyound it. But the rate of fire to damage to accuracy of the gun is incredible compared to most of the automatics. When coupled with the red dot...its a pretty deadly gun. Its my most used weapon. The downside is its range isn't so great. So i have a seperate kit rig'd up for maps where people will be more spread out. But on any map with a lotta up close battles, or maps i do a lotta fighting inside buildigns (vacant, crash, square etc.) the mp5 is supreme in my opinion. I was a huge proponent of theM4 (i think thats the name...or r6 or something...i'm to lazy to go look right now). But i lost a lot of battles in close ranged fights. Even when i got the jump on the guy and initiated the fight. So i started to really pay attention thru the kill cam to see what weapons i was losing these battles to, so i could figure out why...and it was the Mp5. All the different combos i tried seem to weild the same results. The damage and rate of fire of the mp5, just couldn't be matched up close (atleast with any of the weapons i've seen thru level 25). I'm doing pretty well so far, and thats my gun of choice. I find i've been rarely losing any up close battles unless the guy has much better position or gets a really good jump on me.

Has anyone really done any real testing on the perks? With things like say the juggernaut perk to see how much extra damage you can take with it.

Or how many less shots it takes to kill someone using stopping power?

I'm now wondering if i should switch from stopping power to juggernaut on the mp5 since it has a high damage rating already compared to most of the guns.

Hmm....anyone up for doing some testing on this tonight or sometime soon? We could just do a private cage match or something?

I like the G3, it really blows until you get the red dot for it. I think all weapons are that way though, I just cannot effectively use the ironsites for crap. Although the G3 does have good range and stopping power, I still prefer my M4 setup:

    M4 / Red dot
Perk 1 / Special grenades (stun)
    Perk 2 / Stopping Power
    Perk 3 / Deep impact.

I love this setup, its almost like you can shoot through anything and still bum rush a room with effectiveness. Rambo style.

I think I picked up a red dot for the M16 at level 8, but it might have been from completing the first M16 challenge. Either way, you shouldn't be too far off. You're right though, upgrading from the irons is such a huge advantage. It's almost impossible to hit a moving target from far away with irons since it obstructs your view so much.

the scopes are unlocked on a per weapon basis. you have to get a certain amount of kills to unlock the red dot scope for that particular gun.

It only takes 25 kills to get a red dot scope with a particular weapon. The RPD is a very powerful LMG. It launches a nice spray for CQC and has very nice stopping power at a distance when fired in controlled bursts. It also has a very fat clip to go with it. I recommend extreme conditioning to go with any LMG you try though because they do give up a pretty fair amount of mobility.

The RPD information was all from beta and may have since changed.

my favorite hasn't changed since the beta, the m16. i like its iron sights, so i can roll with the noob tube attachment to really piss the gp off.

if i need auto-fire, i roll with the ak. great stopping power, and if you can harness the recoil by pulsing the trigger, this weapon works great for medium-ranged gunfights... especially once you unlock the red dot scope. i prefer this over the submachine guns because i feel as if i empty an entire clip out of the smgs to down the enemy. with the ak i have the option of a prolonged squeeze of the trigger if i need to, but can still kill at a decent distance with just a few rounds.

the dragunov really impressed me when i plucked it off of someone's carcass. the stopping power felt great and the fire-rate fell somewhere between the m21 and the bolt-action rifle.

finally, i was actually surprised by the default shotgun. i couldn't kill a damn thing with it in the beta. but in a domination game on vacant i had much success. maybe i just got lucky.
