    PSone classics on PS3

I was browsing the Playstation store and saw a few games that interested me. First is the PSone Final Fantasy game for $9.99. Has anyone downloaded a PSone classic yet? How bad does it look. I never played a Final Fantasy game, has anyone ever played this one. Whats the gameplay like?

Also I downloaded a demo called Siren: Blood Curse. I thought the demo was fun, but the camera movement with the right thumbstick sucked really bad. Did anyone purchase the full game? Was it worth it?

All in all I found a few items on the ps store I might be picking up! Much better than what Xbox live has to offer

I've downloaded a few: Street Fighter Alpha 1 & 2, Syphon Filter [I got this for free from Qore], and Wild Arms. Also the cool thing with the PSone games is that you can load them up on the PSP by transfering the file to your PSP memcard or playing it via Remote Play from your PS3 (PSone games on disc can work via Remote Play as well).

I have FFVII on disc and I have played it on the PS3 and PSP via Remote Play. As far as how it looks... well it looks like crap compared to games this gen Stick out tongue . The PS3 does its best to make it look presentable on a HD TV, but there is only so much it can do. That has never stopped me from still buying old RPGs (a few weeks ago I picked up Parasite Eve 2) and such to this day because some of those old games are really great. So yes, the gameplay is reasonable, but the visuals may be a bit of an eyesore. This is one of the reasons why I stick to PSone RPGs most of the times because they age really well. And you should be able to enjoy FFVII (even due to it's visuals), depending on your enjoyment of RPGs.

Personally, my favourite PSone FF RPG is FFVIII and not FFVII. I never really understood why ppl put VII over FFVIII, but FFVIII is to this day one of my favourite RPGs. So if you find a used copy, grab it and it probably wouldn't be at inflated prices like the disc version of FFVII.

The gameplay for FFVII is turn based and must definitely feel not as friendly as today's RPGs...that even if still turn based designers have made them more friendly for the player....you might find random battles in the world map annoying..I did hate them in the FF games until finally you could choose to avoid them...but FFVII is definitely a great game.

PS Classics look great on the PSP, the small screen and resolution hides many of the imperfections...on the PS3 looks not so good but only as they looked then when you played them, it's kind of bad that PSOne games are only emulated rather than imrpoved a little

I played SIREN:Blood Curse a while back, I posted a review in AGE's review section, I agree about the camera, the game was definitely worth my money, though...I still think the same about the game, scariest game this gen so far....I assume it's even cheaper today.

My other PSN favorites are: Wipeout HD, Piyotama, Pixel Junk Munsters, Pixel Junk Eden, Super Stardust HD

'Calling All cars' is a really fun game if you have someone to play with at home, 4 player split-screen...it has online but you find barely someone online nowadays.

I bought Siren: Blood Curse as well. If you're a fan of survival-horror games then I highly recommend you buy it. The story is not that strong; the game relies on placing you in various scary senarios that you need to survive. This is survival-horror in the truest sense of the description: fighting is not recommended, you need to use stealth and sneak attacks in some very chilling and disturbing enviroments.

If you're buying it, you can get the disc version HERE for around $28 shipped, which is also uncensored (the US version had some minor censoring) and comes with some extra stuff. It's the UK version, but all PS3s are region free.

Thank you guys so much. Mazz I just read your review of Siren. Awesome!!! I think I'll pay the money for this game. Like I said the demo was fun, and the only really gripe I had was the camera movement.

I am a HUGE xbox guy, so I am very unfamiliar with alot of what the ps3 offers. I value your guys opinions and both of you have helped me out greatly. I might take a pass on the Final fantasy, but I have to admit that the ps store has some awsome exclusives. I'll be looking into wheel of fortune, Pain, Trash panic, pixel junk, and wipeout HD.

Has sony said that they might put some ps2 classics in the ps store? I have a 80gb ps3 which does not have backwards compatibility.

Not sure about the PS2 classics..they said last year  they were looking into it...I don't think that would come (if they ever come) until next year when the PS2 turns 10 but who knows, they might announce something during Leipzing or Tokyo GS.

I love the Parasite Eve series!! They were great games and if the Parasite Eve games were on the PS Store I would buy them in a heartbeat.

As for the FF games I thought FFVII was a good one but I liked FFIX a lot more than VII!! There was something about the "old school" feel of the game with the castles and job classes that made me like it more than others.

Parasite Eve is awesome! It's one of the few adult/contemporary RPGs out there. The only others I can think of is the Persona and Mother series. Luckily we will be seeing Parasite Eve 3 soon on the PSP.

There is this mom & pop videogame store in my area that specializes in older used games & strategy guides. I get great deals there for PSone games. I got Parasite Eve 2 w/ strategy guide (all in excellent condition) for $20. It's better than searching eBay where these games are priced very high. So it's great that on PSN, these games are priced in the $5.99 to $9.99 range. Hopefully they will release more used games like Suikoden and FFVII. I just wish they would get to it and release Suikoden II; paying over $100 for the disc version is too much!

The funny thing is FFIX is probably one of my least favourite FF games and it's because of the very reason you like it. Big Smile But you like Parasite Eve, so you're ok in my book. Wink

I will be buying PE3 the day it comes out!! I've been waiting for that game since I beat PE2....lol

Luckily I still have both Parasite Eve games and a working PS1!! I haven't played either in forever but all this talk about the games makes me wanna play again Stick out tongue

Since you are a fellow Parasite Eve fan, I will put aside our differences in FF games.....LOL

Wife's playing a little FF IX.

It doesn't look great, but hey, at least it works.  Cutscenes actually look pretty decent.  Seems like the emulation can handle curves better than straight lines for whatever reason.

I see what the confusion might have been.  I thought this was a different thread.  She's playing FF IX on disc, not download.

Was it you that got the 60GB PS3 that had the BC built in?

No, I wish I did in a way, except that the newer PS3s are more efficient.  But all PS3 SKUs as far as I know are BC with PS1 games on disc.
