Heads up fellow Xbox 360 shoppers. Today, Amazon.com is holding Gold Box and Lightning Round deals that are all Xbox 360 game related. That means that today at 6AM, 10AM, 2PM and 6PM pacific they'll be announcing new (and limited) 360 gaming deals. Currently, they have Call of Duty 4: GOTY Edition for $40 as part of their day long Gold Box and are selling Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Limited Edition for $30 as their 6AM Lightning Round offer. Again, these deals are limited and will spring up throughout the day, so keep this page bookmarked and watch for a few good 360 deals.

Also, please try to exercise some self restraint and not spend all of this month's paycheck on video games. Be sure to at least save enough to pay for the electric bill, because as you're well aware, you can't game without electricity.

The FPS war game that takes place in the not so distant future (like 20 years from now). Basically the story goes like this: The world's oil supply is running low, 2 sides emerge to try to gain control of the precious oil resources; The Western Coalition (USA, UK, etc.) and The Red Star (Russia, China, etc.). In single player you play as an officer of an elite WC platoon called "the stray dogs". The battles take place in Eastern Europeon contries like Kazahkstan, Terkministan and Russia. It's more than a typical run n gun shooter, you gotta capture, blow up, hack a computur or hold a certain place for a set amount of time to complete your objectives. Whenever you complete objectives you push the frontlines up then you go after another set of objectives.

GAMEPLAY: I have logged in alot of time on this game since the MP demo, but before I go into the good things about the game, let's get the bad out of the way:

Bad- If you were thinking about buying this game JUST for the single player, just rent it instead. You should be able to complete the 8 mission story mode in about 6 hours. The AI even on the hardcore difficulty is not even that big of a challenge. If you some how die you get about 4 continues every half mission you complete, there's really no reason not to be able to complete a mission before running out of chances. Like I already mentioned the battles take place in just a few Eastern Europeon countries and the only people that seem to be fighting are the Russians and Americans although the whole world is supposed to be involved.

Online the KAOS servers were very hard to get into, you would often get the "This game is no longer available" message while trying to get in, but it seems they took care of this problem recently. If you host your own room you can not run 360 dedicated servers and unlike the KAOS servers you can only set it up with a max of 16 players. You can only talk to people on your squad which just a small (up to 4 man) group on your team. There are only 8 maps and just 1 type of game mode to choose from, so it does not offer alot of variety in that respect. Some people feel that I talked to feel that they bought "half of a game". I do think however that the developers are working on the common problems and I'm almost positive that there will eventually be an expansion pack for more maps and possible another game mode or two.

Good- I like the back story that shows the time line and chain of events that took place on how the world got to be like this. The single player is very fun and even though the story mode is short, at least there are bonus maps you can play by typing in a code that came with the game (sp-street, sp-village).

The KAOS servers do run good when they are working correctly. The 24-50 players battles are insanely fun and servers really take advantage of the gigantic sized maps. If your like me and you love to host your own rooms, then you will have alot of options to choose from; you can set up a map order, rounds per map, time limit, reinforcement limit, vehicle classes On/Off, character classes On/Off, roles On/Off and more. Most maps (7 of 8) have a bunch of vehicles to play with and they are all pretty easy to get used too (except the jets take alot of practice) without being too overpowering. The character classes and roles you can select from adds alot of depth to the game; each class has it's own weapon package, each role has it's own specialty. Mix and match for a unique experience every time.

GRAPHICS: There's nothing really special about the graphics, it seems pretty average for a 360 game. Maybe the only things that annoy me about it is that when your on Solar Farm flying around in a jet, you get some thick fog that makes it hard to see very far and on the ground. The frame rate can be kinda choppy at times even as I'm hosting. Those 2 things are not that big of a deal and won't be the reasons not to try FFoW out.

SOUND: The sound is excellent. The music really does a great job of setting the mood both in single player and multiplayer online. The music does not drown out your conversation with other players in which alot of games I noticed tends to do that. What alot of other players have noticed is that when you hear guns firing at you, it's very proximity related. For example: a sniper who is shooting at you from a long distance will make a faint noise from your perspective, the closer he is the louder the sound will become. This goes the same for all gun fire.

CONTROL: The default control scheme was fine the way it is, but unfortunately it does not allow you to custom program each button. The only option it gives you is other control schemes. For the most part the controls feel very natural and it's not that hard to get used to if your used to playing other FPS.

OVERALL: I find myself loving this game the more I play it. It's a good game, but not great. At the very least if your looking for a quick thrill, the game can be very enjoyable to pick up and play for the 1st time. Maybe if the devs were to patch some of the problems and add more game content then it could be great. If you loved the MP demo and can't get enough of it then you will also love the retail version as it's exactly the same with negligible differences.

With Frontlines: Fuel of War's release this week, THQ has already setup over 90 dedicated servers for online play over Xbox Live. Why the need for dedicated servers other than the fact that it's a nice gesture by THQ? Well, because the game is supporting 50 player versus multiplayer, that's why. THQ confirmed that 50 player versus mayhem will only be enabled on one map ("Village") at launch with the possibility of more maps allowing 50 players in the future. We'll have to see if this crazy idea of having a server farm actually works for Frontlines and also ponder why dedicated servers can't be an industry norm. Down with lag, in with dedicated bandwidth! Hoozah!

Yep, you heard it right. Frontlines: Fuel of War will support up to 50 players on "some" dedicated US servers. No real details on how many or how you can tell, but it is offical.

Australia, February 18, 2008 - THQ has just confirmed that its anticipated shooter Frontlines: Fuel of War will now support 50 players simultaneously on some US servers. This is up from the original cap of 32 players, making Frontlines the game with the highest number of players supported in an online shooter over Xbox Live. The announcement, according to THQ:
"KAOS Studios have confirmed that, with regards to multiplayer on the Xbox 360 version of Frontlines: Fuel of War, they will be offering player caps of up to 50 on some US dedicated servers. The official cap for the Xbox 360 version was previously 32 players. The PC version supports 64 players."
At this stage, it's not clear whether or not this increased number of players will extend to all regions. We're currently seeking comment from THQ on this, so please check back shortly.

UPDATE: We have a full statement from THQ regarding Australian servers and player count over Xbox Live:
"We are very excited that KAOS Studios has achieved such a great result.

The Xbox Live multiplayer demo utilises dedicated US servers. Playing with 32 players in Australia on US servers, we have experienced minimal lag, which hasn't affected the incredible multiplayer experience. Australian players can expect epic next-gen warfare on Live with Frontlines: Fuel of War, and we are currently investigating dedicated Australian servers for an even better gaming experience".

What the frick ... did someone slip the game fairy some steroids or what?! Another kick ass looking shooter, "Frontlines: Fuels of War", is making it's way to the Xbox 360.
