Greasy after a late night Gears gaming session....
AGE Username: Greasy Monk
Xbl Gamertag: Greasy Monk
What does your Xbox Live Gamertag mean?
I'm a mechanic by trade and I originally intended to sign up as Grease Monkey. Of course, that gamertag was already taken, so I had to come up with something else. After some time playing around with variations on the name, I decided that "Greasy Monk" sounded pretty funny and stuck with it. Often when I used to game with the GP (before finding salvation here at AGE!) people usually misread the name as Grease Monkey anyway.
How old are you?
28
Where do you live?
Sunny Tampa, FL
Do you have any kids? If so, what is their age?
Nope... a child raising children doesn't just doesn't seem sensible, does it?
How did you learn or hear about AGE and what brought you to our community?
I was checking out Shadowrun.com to read up on the details of the game when I came across a post by Virtual Human recruiting people to join a community of mature, respectful gamers. Up to that point, I, like many here, found that gaming with the GP and all of the doucebaggery that entails was frustrating and the opposite of fun. When I saw that post from Virtual, it was if a ray of light split the heavens to guide me home.
Thanks for saving me, VH! I owe you a beer.
How long have you been playing video games?
Twenty-four years... I believe the year I first played a video game was 1984.
How long have you been playing games online?
I think around 1989 or 1990 was the first time I played a game online. I used to frequent a BBS (bulletin board service, for you pups out there) called CyberChat in my home state of New Jersey. The earliest online game I can recall playing was a text-based game that was based on controlling a kingdom in feudal Europe where you took 1 turn every day and everyone on the BBS competed against each other for dominance of the country. I cannot remember the name, however. I also used to play plenty of text-based RPGs (Tele-Arena, MajorMUD, Crossroads, etc.) as well as Flash Games on various BBSes. Anyone remember FlashGames, such as FlashAttack or FlashMaze?
What's your favorite game to play online?
By the time you read this, it will likely by Gears 2, although Shadowrun will always be at the top of the list as well
What was the first game you played online?
Oops, looks like I jumped the gun and already answered that above.
What was the first game you played online with fellow AGE members, if you can remember?
Shadowrun... it was my introduction to the community and I met hundreds of great people here. I was shocked to learn that there were civilized people out there on teh interwebs.
Is there an arch nemesis on Live that you always feel is your best competition or someone you always want to beat?
As far as best competition, without question, it is Rapida. There is no greater pleasure than seeing him fall at my hands. If I see him in the middle of a match, I will pursue him exclusively until one of us is dead, all the while ignoring teammates or the actual objective.
I also enjoy humiliating Tbadfly in any number of games. I know it's not nice to pick on the kids that ride the shortbus, but's it's too much fun not to abuse him. Noob.
When you sign on to Live is there someone you always look for to play online with?
Pretty much anybody here at AGE. I always check on what Rapida, Pestigo42, Tbadly, Capt T60, Nick War, PMH360 and dboss007 are up to when I first log on, I also love to get in some games with my real life friends that I don't get to see anymore because we've all moved away from each other... excaluber11, Chuckstar919, Doble37, Smilla0, Counsell0r. And then there's the Gears players... all the drunkards that enjoy sitting down and having a few beers and BSing while playing some Gears until the early morning. I'm not going to name all the remaining Gears players on my FL or the AGE GoW FL, but everyone out there can safely assume I mean, you, too.
Which do you prefer, single player or multiplayer games?
Before finding AGE, I would have said single player. Since joining here, I am always ready to jump into some multiplayer or co-op action.
Which do you prefer, ranked or unranked games?
Unranked, by far, unless the game offers the chance to party up with fellow AGErs and beat on the GP.
Which do you prefer, co-op or multiplayer?
That's a tough call. I would say I like them both equally, although I spend more time in multiplayer. Usually, co-op games only last so long before you're back to doing the same thing. Multiplayer generally offers something new every time you play.
Which, if any, achievements are you most proud of?
Heh, this one is gonna be lame. Getting 200/200 in Burger King's Sneak King, specifically the "Completist" achievement, which requires you to "Achieve an 'A' rank for all Challenges in entire game."
The reason this achievement is one to be proud/ashamed of is that there is one challenge in Suburbia that is bugged. In order to get an 'A' ranking, you must score X amount of points and deliver various Burger King meals to everybody within the time limit. Unforunately, the bug is that the layout of the deliverees are almost never in the correct position to complete the challenge within the time limit. I think I spent about 2 hours constantly reloading the level until the correct scenario came up where I was able to complete it. I think all but the most addicted cheevo whor-- hunters would agree that is pretty disgusting and desperate situation.
Do you play inverted or normal?
I play on normal, although I think I used to play inverted on Goldeneye on the N64. I didn't play many games for a few years and when I went back to them, I think I just stuck with the default settings, which is "normal" nowadays.
What is your first video game memory?
I remember visiting a neighbor's house and seeing Jungle Hunt on the Atari 2600 for the first time. I think it was the swinging vines level.
What game systems do you own or have owned in the past?
Atari 5200 (with 2600 adapter), NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube and now the Xbox 360. I still have all of them, with the exception of the Atari.
What is your favorite video game of all time, and why?
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem on the Gamecube... the storytelling in that game was fantastic. I loved how each character in each time period contributed a part to the story that all came together in the end. I think I played through it 6 times in a row. I still pull out the gamecube once a year and run through the game.
If you could only
