Rum Bowl Lives Up to the Hype

Peshtigo dubbed this week "Rum Bowl Hype Week" as folks were barraged with promotional stuff for the finals. It would have been a shame to see all that end with a wimper, but fortunately the Rum Bowl lived up to the hype with a close, intense finals matchup that saw Team Screech eeking out the win over Admiral Nelson in the last of 5 rounds that included an overtime match and a big comeback. Congrats to Cokebear , Gunner McGrath, Jay8497, Lackwit, Vcize, Wiglag, and WrekTaFyr.

Domination on Sub Base: This was Screech's bread and butter all season long, as they finished 9-0 on this map/gametype. Screech ran its usual strategy and, despite being completely cleared off B at the start by a well placed rocket from ChewySmokey, was still able to capture B after Cokebear added a well placed rocket of his own to the mix. From there, they held it the rest of the map and took the early 1-0 lead.

TDM on Sub Base: Admiral Nelson came out on fire in this one, knowing that they badly needed a win here with another Domination/Sub Base gametype on the eventual horizon. Nelson took an early 500-0 lead, and at one point grew that lead to 2200-1000. Screech was able to remain calm though, and pinch Nelson back into a corner where they were able to rack up some kills and get the game close again. Screech eventually took the lead and was able to hold on as Nelson attempted a desperate rush when trailing by 400 with a minute left.

S&D on Terminal: With their backs against the wall, knowing that one more loss ended their night, Admiral Nelson got to play their equivalent to Screech's domination on Sub Base. Nelson was 5-0 on S&D Terminal heading into the match, with most of the games being blowout wins. Screech was determined not to make this map easy for them though, and took a 2-1 lead on their defense rounds. Nelson was able to take the next two rounds, taking the lead back 3-2, but Screech was able to get the bomb planted for the win in the last round to tie things up at 3-3 and send it into overtime. In overtime, Nelson defended and locked down the map, picking up the victory and bringing the overall match score to 2-1 in favor of Screech.

Domination on Terminal: The first half of the match was back and forth, with Screech holding a slight lead at the halfway mark 105-93. From there, Nelson regrouped and really made a strong push to the end, capturing two points and never holding less than two the rest of the match for a 200-170 victory that would send us to one final match, winner take all.

Domination on Sub Base: 7 weeks of blood, sweat, and tears (by our videogame characters at least, not our own) all came down to one final match. Fortunately for Screech, their higher seeding granted them homefield advantage on this final match, and their seemingly unstoppable strategy on this game type and map did not let them down, as they took the victory and the badge.

Bonus Match: Some of you may recall Surreal's video from the UC2 tourney, in which he soothed his loss in the finals by playing a bonus match of team rockets against the winning team just for fun and slaughtered them, then posted the video of the annihilation. He wanted another chance of that here, and suggested we play a CTF match just for fun since Nelson had dominated Screech at CTF in their regular season matchup. Gunner, the savvy trickster that he is, nonchalantly "randomly" suggested Scrapyard as the map to play it on, not telling team Nelson that it was actually Screech's favorite CTF map. Screech dominated the bonus match 7-1, making sure that we would not see another of Surreal's revenge videos.

Big props go to Bull Junior and Peshtigo, who did a fantastic job organizing and running a great league. Don't forget to sign of up for the pro bowl!

And thanks to this investment and the enthusiasm of community members like you, we're proud to be the strongest and most diverse online community of its kind at 23 million.

The Xbox LIVE Terms of Use and Code of Conduct are designed to create a place where people can safely enjoy all of the ways to interact on our service, be it online multiplayer gaming, photo sharing, Netflix parties, or social games such as 1 vs 100, without fear of discrimination or harassment. As the service evolves and our customers provide us with feedback, these rules evolve to incorporate new features or changes in how people wish to interact.

With that in mind, I'd like to announce an update to the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use and Code of Conduct which will allow our members to more freely express their race, nationality, religion and sexual orientation in Gamertags and profiles. Under our previous policy, some of these expressions of self-identification were not allowed in Gamertags or profiles to prevent the use of these terms as insults or slurs. 1. Introduce Yourselves.

SurrealPanic: Hi, I am Surreal. I aim low. Nope, even lower.

ChewySmokey: Buon giorno, I am ChewySmokey. I also answer to "CampySmokey", "ChewyCampy" (see a trend, here?), "that guy who will leave you for dead when the shit hits the fan", "That Canadian" or "Hoser". Apparently I am co-captain for Team Admiral Nelson in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 league "Modern Rumfare", I guess slapping together maps to formulate strategies and bossing around my teammates entitles me to some authority.

2. Share with us, all your hopes and dreams.

SurrealPanic: I dream of a world free of Screech and Screech-related merchandise, imagery, badging, and paraphenalia.

ChewySmokey: I hope to finish my schooling this year and enter the workforce, the "real world" work force, as some sort of graphic designer. Fuck that free-lancer shit, I want to work for an actual company with steady pay. I want to make things, animate (2D or 3D), graphics, all that fun shit, though it is quite ambitious. Oh, and I hope we win!

3. Tell me about your team.

SurrealPanic: Great bunch of guys. Everyone is willing to eat bullets FTW. Not a stinker in the bunch. A good well-rounded unruly mob.

ChewySmokey: My team is like a well oiled machine that can cuss and swear with the best of 'em! Communication is never a problem and we've become very good at adapting to changing conditions in gameplay.

4. Any teammate you think deserves a special shout-out?

SurrealPanic: Chewy has played well all league, but everyone on the team has had good games and made clutch plays.

ChewySmokey: Fuck, I don't know, they all do their part and contribute, but I think I'll give a shout out to Pittenger5 for scoring the only point on the decisive CTF match against Sailor Jerry last week. Of coarse, without good defense and massive efforts made to retrieve our flag that point would have meant nothing, which everyone had a hand in.

5. Give me your thoughts on the upcoming match Thursday night.

SurrealPanic: We will sweep. Over in 30.

ChewySmokey: It will be brutal and close, but I think we are ready.

6. What are your plans after your Rum Bowl victory?

SurrealPanic: I am going to Gatorland.

ChewySmokey: Change my avatar on these forums, prestige after I work on some other guns and sleep.

7. Finally, define your team in 7 words or less.

Rum Bowl Interview with Newfoundland Screech:

1. Introduce Yourselves.

Gunner McGrath: Hello. My name is Chris McGrath, and I live in Hoffman Estates, Illinois (which is a suburb of Chicago... excellent!). I'm 31, married for almost 2 years, and we have our first child coming in July. Back in my early days as a singer for a punk band, my friend's sister decided that Gunner McGrath was a cool nickname, and after putting it on our web site, people thought it was my real name and it stuck. It means absolutely nothing and certainly has nothing to do with my prowess behind a virtual FAMAS.

Vcize: 16/f has webcam want 2 chat?

2. Share with us, all your hopes and dreams.

Gunner McGrath: I don't have that many, really. I hope to be a good husband and father, and I dream of the day when I am completely out of debt. But most importantly, I really desperately want to get 1000 headshots with the aforementioned FAMAS, and of course, spank Nelson hard this Thursday! (It is a little known fact that my only Call of Duty badge was earned by subbing in the last match of a tournament finals game, and wasn't actually my team, so winning this one would be the first that I properly earned!)

Vcize: I currently work in software development. As everyone around here probably knows, I want to get the hell out of that god-forsaken field and get into the video production field someday. Maybe Chewy and I should start our own company. That is, if he'll talk to me after we destroy his team tomorrow night.

3. Tell me about your team.

Gunner McGrath: I'll tell you what I really like about my team. We may not be the best shots or know the maps better than anyone else, but everybody takes the league [reasonably] seriously and when we decide on a strategy, we execute it. Nobody's running around doing their own thing (though if anyone would be guilty of that, it'd be me).

Vcize: We're a bunch of jokers who, when combined, form the perfect meld of ass kicking brutality. Kind of like when the planets all align just right and cause the world to end in 2012 (I saw it in a movie, there's no stopping it).

4. Any teammate you think deserves a special shout-out?

Gunner McGrath: I like my whole team equally. Though I will say I'm impressed that Vcize has held his own even though he's only level 35, and Wiglag prestiged on a weekend and pushed hard to get himself back up into the 40's again before the last match. That's dedication to the league AND the game!

Vcize: Everyone on our team plays an important role and without any one of us we're worse off. For instance our success on domination on our home map has everyone playing a key role and without any one of us it would leave a huge hole in our strategery for that map. Lackwit's 184:1 K/D ratio during the tourney hasn't hurt either.

5. Give me your thoughts on the upcoming match Thursday night.

Gunner McGrath: Well, I was pretty worried about our ability to win last week, and that worked out pretty well for us, so I'm going to go ahead and continue to be worried that Nelson has learned enough from our previous encounter to give us some real trouble. They may not have been the top seed, but they earned their way into the finals and that's nothing to sneeze at. I expect to have a racing heart and very tense muscles when I go to bed Thursday.

Vcize: We've played Admiral Nelson before so we know it will be a hard fought, nail-biter. We will prevail though, our awesome level is just too high to keep us down.

6. What are your plans after your Rum Bowl victory?

Gunner McGrath: I'm going to prestige! (Just as soon as I get that 1000th headshot.)

Vcize: I'm going to try to find the room for another badge without AJ bitching about it.

7. Finally, define your team in 7 words or less.

Gunner McGrath: Dustin Diamond has got nothing on us.

Vcize: Destroyers of dreams.

Tecmo Bowl Throwback Headed to PSN & XBLA

In all of my gaming, I’ve not spent half as many hours playing a game as I have spent playing the Tecmo Bowl franchise. Do you remember the days of Bo Jackson running non-stop, and having David Fulcher of the Bengals pick off a pass that he was no where near? ME TOO! Hopefully you have a DS, and Tecmo Bowl Kickoff http://www.tecmobowlgame.com/tecmobowlkickoff/index.html will hold you over until the release of Tecmo Bowl Throwback on PSN & XBLA.

The day is coming where Tecmo Bowl is RE-BORN. Southend Interactive is working on the new title for Tecmo and appears to be putting together a 32 team game with customizable rosters. (1) I was unable to find a price point for this game on the XBLA but the ‘tecmo players circuit’ has it going between 1200 & 1600 MS points or $14.99 & $19.99. Again- Officially, NO prices have been announced for Tecmo Bowl Throwback (2)

Forza 3 VIP Content now available to purchase

Turn 10 is finally offering up the VIP content for 800 MSP.

Four Forza Motorsport 3 add-ons have been made available for download, and one in particular goes towards a good cause. Nab the "VIP Membership Car Pack" at any time during the month of March, and Turn 10 will donate $10 to the Haiti relief fund Save the Children, up to $100,000.

In this VIP Membership Car Pack (800 Microsoft Points) you'll gain access and special visibility in the Forza community, with special recognition in scoreboards, lobbies and more. You'll be placed in the VIP section of the auction house. On top of all of that, you'll gain five VIP cars: 2008 Aston Martin DBS, 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, 2007 Ferrari F430 Scuderia, 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, and 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997).

Assassin's Creed 2 MP for iPhone Free Today

iPhone deals don't usually make the cut here, but since this one is pretty heavily related to a 360/PS3 game most have played I figured I'd post it. Ubisoft's multiplayer game based on Assassin's Creed 2 is free for the iPhone today (normally $2.99). Nothing spectacular, but it's actually pretty fun, and you can't beat free.
