Original Xbox Games Lose LIVE Support This April

Notwen (or Marc Whitten, GM of Xbox LIVE...to those of you unfamiliar with the management over at XBL) has announced on the Xbox Gamerscore Blog that in April of this year, all version 1 Xbox games will lose LIVE support. This would include playing those same Xbox 1 games online on the Xbox 360 (if they were backwards compatible). This move that will be unpopular for sure but one that Xbox LIVE feels it has to make to continue to evolve the service.

Many of us AGE members are hoping that this move eventually means an increase and tweaks to the current 100 friend limit on our friends list. It also means all you Halo 2 players will need to finally move on to Halo 3, ODST, or later on Halo: Reach to scratch their 'Halo itch' online. In addition this is sad news for Star Wars Battlefront fans who STILL don't have a next-gen version to play online. Lucasarts...ARE YOU LISTENING?????

[EDIT by Gunner McGrath] There have been rumors that the SOCOM developers are in pre-production for Star Wars Battlefront Online!  Source: http://kotaku.com/5458570/rumor-socom-devs-working-on-star-wars-battlefront-online

I agree, I hope that means the Friends List can finally get a size increase.

So excited about a bigger friends list FINALLY!  I wonder what else they'll be able to do that they couldn't do before.

I want a new Crimson Skies game too, while we're putting in requests for reboots of original XBOX games.

Hopefully instead of just a friend's list size update there will be some sort of group creation, so we could have the AGE group and a list of members on it. If it also had sub groups for different games it would be great too! That could replace the FoF lists.

Imagine being able to pull up the guide, go to AGE, select a game, and see everyone at AGE that is playing it, whether they're on your FL or the FoF list. That would rock and save a lot of the wasted time spent shuffling through lists to get a game going.

Digital's got the right idea.  I hope cutting the cord to the old Live will allow for some good upgrades in the near future.

About Wokisan

I've been playing Video Games for 2 decades plus now...including such systems as the Atari2600, Commodore 64, vic-20, Colecovision, Intellivision, etc.....

I became a Nintendo fan with the release of the NES (still have it today), switched to Sony for the original Playstation, progressed to PC Gaming, and have been with Microsoft since Xbox 1.

Today I am primarily a Xbox 360/PC gamer and every once in a while I'll play on the Wii. Over the years I RARELY played online games (with the exception of Counterstrike and Halo 2) until I saw a post from VirtualHuman about AGE on the AVSForums.

Fast forward a few months.......now my friends list is full and I play multiplayer almost as much as single player. Without AGE that would not have happened.

My other interests include UVA athletics (Football season ticket holder...GO HOOS!), attempting to play golf, building and modding PCs, and of course raising my 2 daughters to be 2nd generation gamers....heh heh.
