Well, this explains my stroke-like symptoms.

I think we have a new method for calling in sick to work, folks! It's an addiction!

Boy diagnosed with ‘PlayStation addiction’
Story By Mark Podd
Stroke-like symptoms caused by gaming session

A 13-year-old boy in Italy has been diagnosed with ‘PlayStation addiction’, after he was rushed to hospital with stroke-like symptoms.

So news service Ananova is reporting, Lorenzo Amato was rushed to Lecce hospital in southern Italy by his father, after he lost the ability to speak and understand what was going on around him.

At first, doctors suspected that the teenager may have suffered a stroke or another severe brain disorder, but it now looks like the cause of the problem may well have been his console.

Prior to the problems starting, Amato had been enjoying a “marathon session” on his new PlayStation console.

“They eventually managed to take care of him once they understood that this was a strange kind of mental detachment connected to his PlayStation.” Local politician Antonio Buccoliero said, after speaking to Amato’s doctors.

Either way, it seems the boy has had enough of his console, asking his father to throw the machine away.

“If I even think about it I want to throw up,” he said.

Strange, but there you go. Cheers, VG247.

Good for that kid!  At least he learned the first time around and doesn't want to play it anymore!

Quasar, the story originated from Ananova.com, which apparently showcases odd news stories.

The instructions to consoles and games usually include a warning that prolonged play may lead to dizziness or even seizures.

Glad he's ok, but game addiction can be a pretty serious problem with kids. Around here, there was a 15 year old boy who had his console taken away from him by his parents for playing too much - he got so upset that he ran away and he was found a few days later deceased. Not good at all....

Parents really need to monitor how much their children play because there are real dangers involved with letting kids play without any limitations.

This is EXACTLY why, when doing prolonged sessions of non-stop gaming I always try to drink copious quantities of booze. That and peanuts.

Wait, maybe that's what you're supposed to do when you're space warping and you are a character in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galazy...
