If you have not already noticed, we have a popular feature here at Adult Gaming Enthusiasts called Game Nights. This is a module that lets individuals sign themselves up for game specific games-per-night meetings. We have at least one game per night for the entire week; some nights have more than one game. For example, on Mondays, we have a Halo 3 Game Night.
What is a Game Night?
A Game Night is basically an organized sign-up list for specific game per night. We setup each day of the week for a specific game to be played. The idea is that having a pre-defined Game Night gives everyone a chance to schedule around their busy real life activities. Or, rather, schedule their real life activities around our pre-defined Game Nights =)
Where is the list of games you guys play?
If you look at the right hand side of the front page, you will notice a list of all the games we are currently using for our Game Nights. Each game has a specific day that it is played.
How do I join a Game Night? How do I quit if I have unexpected plans come up?
First thing to do is make sure you have your Gamertag added to your AGE Profile. To check, click the 'edit profile' in the upper right hand side of the site, then choose the 'About' tab. You will see the Gamertag fields there.
Signing up for a Game Night is very easy. As long as you are registered at the AGE site, all you have to do is click the 'Join game' link underneath the Game Night image.
Once you hit the 'Join game' link, you will be presented with the following screen ...
You will see a couple of choices and fields that you may want to fill out. The first is 'Host'. If you want to volunteer to be a host for the night, check the 'Host' box. Also be sure to enter how many players you plan on hosting. Be sure your connection can handle that many people. If you are unsure, please visit the Hosting Discussion forum.
You can also enter the game modes, times you plan on playing, and general comments. Once you enter all this information, click the Save button. This is what it will look like in the sign-up thread ...
Sometimes we have stuff come up at the last minute that may keep us from playing the night we signed up for. If this happens to you, please take time to remove your name from the sign-up list. Do this by simply clicking the 'Quit' link under the Game Night image.
How do I know if I successfully signed up for the Game Night?
There are two ways. (1) Once you sign up, the 'Join' button will change to 'Quit'. (2) Another way to tell is by clicking the image of the Game Night on the front page. Doing so will take you to the sign-up list, showing all the names of people participating for that weeks Game Night. Your name should now appear on this list.
Is there a discussion thread for the Game Nights?
Yes. Each game has it's own specific forum thread for the Game Nights. Access the discussion thread by clicking the specific game's image on the front page under the Game Nights section. Please note that the Game Night module set to automatically lock the old sign-up/discusion threads at the end of the night of that specific Game Night. We do this to limit multi-thread confusion and keep a linear discussion going through the new threads. Once it is locked, a new one is automatically created for the new week. So, if you want to discuss last nights gameplay, simply do it in the newly created sign-up/discussion thread.
Sending out Friend Requests and Live Messages (Xbox Game Nights only):
In the sign-up list/discussion thread you will notice two small icons next to each persons name. These are quick links to allow you easily send Xbox Friend Requests and Xbox Live Messages through Microsoft's Xbox Live service. I highly recommend you to use these before the Game Night starts. This will help ensure you can meet up with other participants. Also, be sure to attach an "I'm from AGE" text with each Friend Request.
= send user a Friend Request through Xbox Live
= send user a text message through Xbox Live
You can also view individual's AGE Profile by clicking their name on the sign-up list. From there, you can send them a Private Message at the AGE site.
Game Nights Guideline:
General Tips:
1) Please do not create a new room unless all the Game Night Host rooms are full (or never started).
Tips for Hosts:
1) Make sure to not join any games in progress (unless it is a person from the official Host list). Instead, create your own game, using all private slots.
2) Invite players from AGE with priority given to those signed up in the Game Night thread. Only invite non-AGE gamers to fill up a room after you have checked with the AGE members in your room and if you are willing to vouch for their behavior. If the game allows, use bots to fill the empty spots until others arrive.
3) Please be proactive in "policing" your room - both in responding to poor behavior or sportsmanship and in mixing up groups if skill gets too one-sided. Actively solicit input from your players in regarding keeping or changing map/mode selections.
4) Please do not create rooms that are open to the general public. These people do not know our code of conduct.
5) Add all hosts to your friends list so you can communicate between each other to determine if rooms are full.
6) Change your Live status to "Away" when your room is full. This will alert people that your room is full. (can still see msg notifications).
Tips for Players:
1) You will be required to abide by the AGE Site Rules (see Section 12).
2) Good sportsmanship is required. Please treat players the way you would want to be treated. While AGE Game Nights can sometimes be skillful, they do not need to be over competitive. No taunting or name calling will be allowed
3) Help fill up Game Night hosted rooms (names on the AGE host list) before joining a non-Game Night hosted room (names not on Host list).
4) Make sure to ask the host if you can invite a friend in the room before doing so.
5) If a hosts online status says "Away", this means his/her room is full.
6) Please only send text messages to hosts. For example, if you want an invite, send a text message of "Invite?". Text messages are much easier for host o deal with than voice messages.
Do you still have questions?
If so, please post them in the Questions and Suggestions forum. I am sure someone will quickly answer any questions you may have. Now, stop wasting time and sign up for one of the Game Nights!
