Video of Spring Dashboard updates!

1P Start has a video showing some of the new features forthcoming in the spring dashboard update:

I received a tip from a 1PStart reader that Microsoft put together a video showing off what we should expect in the upcoming Xbox 360 Spring dashboard update. The number of changes are numerous but some of the most impressive are being able to see people on your MSN messenger buddy list on your 360, but only being able to send text messages back and forth at the moment. Also, the marketplace will get it’s own blade among other updates.

 Some of the notable updates:

  • Integration with Windows Live Messenger
  • Up to 600 Live contacts (is this only IM contacts or friends as well?)
  • Multi-party chat while playing games, watching movies (may we have a keyboard please?)
  • Split Marketplace and Live blades
  • Increased ability/efficiency to brag about your achievements
  • Improved background downloading (even a low-power downloading mode)
  • View partially downloaded video files

What was missing was any mention of the "see what's in the tray" rumored update.

Auto shutdown after download is going to be a nice feature once more material is presented on marketplace.

I'm not sure I care about integration with live messenger, but the other stuff sounds cool.   I hope they fix the DVD playback.  I can;t stand "jaggys", but it would be nice not to have multiple devices that play DVDs in my entertainment center.  If the 360 did a better job I could get rid one one component.

I'm crossing my fingers that the 600 is for friends list as well.

Same list, but a bit more info:

- Releases May 7th.

- Add up to 600 Windows Live Messenger contacts to your Friends List.

- Text chat with up to 6 Live Messenger contacts at once during games or movies.

- The Marketplace will be getting its own Dashboard Blade.

- The Marketplace will be skinned independently of the Dashboard, for special events.

- The Marketplace will be getting a new, easier-to-navigate remake.

- Achievement Pop-ups will now display how many points and which Achievement you have gained.

- Low-power downloading (fans off) and auto-off after finishing queued downloads.

- View partially downloaded video files.

I'm glad they are finally giving the Marketplace it's own blade. That should making organizing things much easier. Less power is always good too, especially for a energy guzzler like the Xbox 360. I am crossing my fingers and hoping the AGE community will somehow be able to use the Messenger 600 contacts to organize ourselves online a little bit better. Sounds promising though.

We'll see how this messenger thing works out as far as the friends list. I guess I'm a bit confused as to having both systems. I know you can create "groups" in the messenger program, so maybe we can have the group "AGE" in the program with a listing of everyone directly in messenger under the grouping, instead of using the limited friends list. It looks like its possible, but we'll see.
