This is one of the main reasons I picked up the DS. After reading reviews on this game I just had to check it out. Here's my initial impressions.

Gameplay:You play as Dr. Derek Stiles a new surgeon who's fresh off his residency. You will actually be the surgical hands of the Doc in many different situations. The top screen is where the story plays out. Each of the hospital's staff is represented by an anime character that is well drawn out, but not animated. While this is kind of lame, it really doesnt affect the storyline, as they did a very good job of writing. When you get into surgery is where the game shines. You are in control, your patients life in your hands. You have 10 different instruments at your disposal. Your nurse will aid you on the top screen but your attention will be focused on the touch screen. Here's the first case that came in. The patient flew out of a car and had glass lodged in his arm and several lacerations. It will show the area on the touch screen that you will be working on. First you will select the suture (sp?) tool and move your stylus on the screen back and forth over the open wound to stitch it up. After you get it closed you apply some anti-bacterial stuff to it and bandage it. Then you move on to the glass. With tweezers you tap your stylus on the glass and pull (drag) the glass from the wound and put it in a tray. Then you disinfect and stitch it up. Then the nurse tells you there is glass that got lodged under the skin. Out comes the scalpel and you cut open the area with the stylus just like if you were using the scalpel itself. After you complete a surgery you get ranked on speed/accuracy of your work. Its pretty fun to take part in this game as this is the type of stuff the DS is made for.

Graphics: The graphics are really good on this title. The top screen shows the story in still images, but they are well drawn. The touch screen is where the action takes place and for the most part is very well done. Its not realistic by any means but I think if it was, I would be passed out on the floor from all the blood :smt009

Sound: Decent music, and occasional voiceovers are all here. This game is not about sound though, its about interactivity.

Control: This is where the game shines! I love the feeling that I get when I am actually doing the surgery. This kind of innovation is what Nintendo is all about. I look forward to getting more games that utilize the touchscreen in this way.

Gameplay: 10/10
Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 7/10
Control: 10/10

If you have a DS and have been waiting for a game that utilizes the touch screen in a sweet way pick this up. If your into the whole ER (tv series) thing this game would be a great buy for you as well. All in all this is a must get title for the DS.
