BoW III - everyone check-in

So, we are thinking May 11th for the 3rd addition to the BoW series...we need to get an idea as to whether or not this works for everyone...who can be a sub, etc.


We also need to know if folks want to look at the one night 'double elimination' type of format...or go from a one night to two week type tourney (which, from positive response to one night only...I am guessing no), or just leave it as is.


There will be two pools of 4 teams, each pool will play a round robin (3 matches). Winning team from each pool goes to the finals. Each round will be made up of 5 maps that are played 1st to 4 wins. The scoring will be like both BoW I and II, it'll be done by maps wins, each round will be 5 maps, with 3 rounds there will be a max recored of 15-0 during the pool play portion.


The schedule shows who will be home team (i.e. hosting). During pool play the home team will host for all 5 maps. An effort was made to give the losing team during head to head play from BoW II hosting duties for pool play but that wasn't possible in all cases. During the final, the team with the best record during pool play will host the 1st 2 maps, then the other team will host 2 maps and if it goes to the final map hosting goes back to team with the best record.


Tie-breakers for best record in pool play will be decided by (1) head-to-head record (2) record against 2nd place team (3) record against 3rd place team (4) record against 4th place team.

Captains: Please get all the other captains on your friends list. You'll be in charge of report the results of rounds to SuperRabbit so you'll need him on your friends list too. A simple text message is all that is needed after each round (e.g. A defeats B 3-2) Please try and keep things moving, the tourney will only go as fast as the slowest team.






Players: Good idea to print out the schedule so you know who you team is playing and verifying the maps selection and host.

Perhaps a sign-up cutoff date will help us determine the format that should be put into place. Personally, the six team one-nighter is fine with me (I'm in CST). However, too many teams may require a format change. So, I'msuggesting a fairly soon participant sign-up cutoff date to help determine how the tournament is formated. Just a suggestion.

The rules will get posted up soon. Should be a pretty simple affair, I just print out the schedule and teams then show up at 10 pm EST 5/11. Making sure that the guys on your team are on you friends list plus a person or 2 from other teams is probably something to do too.

I&#39;m pretty sure it is going to be two groups of pool play (3 matches) and then the top teams from each pool will duke it out for the title. It&#39;ll end up running like 2 BoW I tourneys at the same time with the winners from each playing the final match.

Running from 10 est to 1am est isn't that bad at all. I would love to be on a squad for next Friday, but I am pretty sure I have tickets to a comedy show on the 11th. I usually don't play on Friday nights (usually hangin with the wife), but I keep reading about how fun these BOW events are so I had to have a little chat with the lady. The winning team from each round robin pool will play in the finals. In BOWII we had 1v2, 3v4, 5v6 matched up in the finals but everyone agreed that if they aren't playing for 1st they would rather forgo the final round.

For those people new the BOW, I'll send out the results to everyone after each round. In BOW II, I ran into problems with a max # of messages sent each day, but rejigged it so I only need to send one message each round so I should be able to send them out to everyone. After Round 3, I will send the finals matchup and who will be hosting which maps.

The round-robin portion is for the right to play in the final against the champion of the other round-robin. In the final round, the person with the better record will host the first 2 maps. The other team will host the next 2 and the higher team will host the final map.

The winner of the final round will be the winner of Beers of War III ! Prizes include the opportunity to talk smack on the forums and a cool little banner beneath their names on these forums.

Just thought I'd make a quick post reminding people of some things for this evening - and letting some first-timers know what's going to happen.
<ul> If you are a team captain, please make sure you have all the other Team Captains and all your teammates on your friends list. It is <u>really</u> important to keep these matches moving. We have had problems with the first 2 BOW running late and we need everyone's cooperation to keep matches moving along. The tourney will only advance as fast as the slowest match so please try to keep it moving. You play all 5 maps for each round regardless of the results. We will use total maps won to determine the winner so 5-0 is better than 3-2.
If the Team captains can message me a simple message via XBox Live that says "A beats D 3-2" or something similiar. I will send out a message after each round is finished with the results and standings after that round. Just a heads up - the message will be a little long as I'm trying to avoid the message limit problems I had last time. Let it scroll down for Pool B results. I'll also send out a message after the last round with the matchup for the finals - and which team gets first (and last) host advantage. The final round will rotate hosts with one team hosting the first 2 maps, the other team the next 2 and then back to the first team for the final map if required. On the off-chance my team does not make the finals, I'm going to bed.
