Mac users are a rare breed. I like macs just as much as the other guy. There's no way I could do any of my video work without it.
But, people who own Macs usually get really really really into them. Generally much more so than PC guys. Mac users live and die by their macs. They love their Macs more than they love their children. They go to Mac websites, they have Mac bumper stickers, they frequent Mac stores, they request Mac forums.
So my question is, what happens to you people? Why the sudden utter devotion to this product? What is it about everything Apple that has you all so obsessed?
*note* This is not a debate of PC vs. Macs. I'm just wondering wherethis overwhelming bubble of love comes from. *end note*

good question, i never really thought about it. me and all my
friends are mac dorks, so i guess the obsession never really stood
out. mabye it has something to do with being part of a group that
is often looked down on by the mainstream (aka: the sheep) and we rally
around the product at the center of it all... our macs. i dunno,
really.
btw... our obsession made us stand in line for hours when the first
chicago apple store opened up here in schaumburg. we stood in
line for hours just for the privledge of giving apple some of our
money. now that's crazy.

I'd have to answer your question with a question...
Why do PC folks (in general)hate Macs so much? I mean, I've got some PC friends that hate Macs with a white-hot passion. The problem is thatwhen they try to explain to me why the Mac is wrong for doing this or that...well...they're 99 times out of 100 wrong that a Mac does this or that.
I've got one friend that swears up and down that Apple is bad because it's a monopoly. WTF? I keep asking him if Ford is a monopoly because the are the only company that makes Fords, but it goes over his head.
I guess I love Macs so much because they do little things that impress the shit out of me all the time. Eachthing is insignificant on its own, but taken together they make for such a nice computing experience.

hey're 99 times out of 100 wrong that a Mac does this or that.
i had someone here at work once say to me... "yeah, but, macs cant do
the internet." huh? i really dont know where they come up
with stuff.
The reasoning in the UI makes more sense to me, and the fact that things tend to just work on my Mac versus my PC which requires me to sys admin the thing all the time leads me to LIKE my mac while my pc makes groan when I think about it.
The mere fact that the device that I use to make my living is also a general pleasure to use is what makes me LOVE it.

Also, now that a unix core and Photoshop can run on the same box, I'm in UI development heaven. I use cvs, vi, BBedit, and Photoshop heavily and it's all relatively seemless for someone like me who has worked with Linux since the late 90's.
