Just want to know what most people use when playing games. I use the inverted look but have been thinking that maybe it would be advantagous to use the non-inverted. What do you all think?

Inverted for me. Some of the first games I played that made use
of a joystick were flight sims, so naturally, back is up and forward is
down. Ever since then, I've always had to go with that setup as
the other way just feels wrong.

Must say inverted is the only way to go, what would happen if you had to fly a plane in an emergency?

I picked non but you need a "depends on game" button. For flight games (CS) I prefer inverted but for FPS (BA) I prefer non-inverted.

Exactly! You never know when that might happen. Then you non-inverted guys would be up the creek! :smt003

My nipples are not inverted, but my controls are. I used to be an un-official emergency pilot and just got too used to pushing forward to dive... dive! diiiiivveeee!!! lol :smt003

I can not deal with inverted controller settings in any way. I find it completely confounding.

Isn't it funny how the brain works? If I don't have the controls inverted I tend to run looking at the ground or overcompensating and looking at the ceiling! I feel like a guy who has lost all control of my neck. I must have inverte controls...I must.. DO YOU HEAR ME!!!

I had used inverted for a long time. Thanks to flight sims and stuff. Then a game came out that i played alot you could only use the non inverted scheme ( I think it was Metroid Prime but im not positive ) and ever since its all i can use.

As far as any advantage to either choice.... I don't see where there would be any at all. It is just a matter of what you are most comfortable with. I once played while hanging from my ankles in one of those anti-grav relaxer devices and used non-inverted (since I am used to inverted) and still found no particular difference other than developing a bit of a headache after about 15 mins of blood rushing to my head. Needless to say, I reverted to inverted and returned the anti-grav device. :smt003

I can go eather way with no real advantage - I get owned regardless of my controller settings.

For the most part I use non-inverted simply because I'm too lazy to change the setting.

I agree with Empty - It is just a matter of what you are most comfortable with. In my case, I'll never be comfortable with the xbox controller.

I hear ya there! I have been a "converted from PC to Console" online gamer for just at two years now. The biggest initial factor was that I had become so used to using a trackball for aiming in first person games (the precision from minute movement to rapid "swing aroundand stop" motions for me is just unparalleled). Making the "switch" was a very awkward thing for me and I would say it took at least a good six months to even begin to feel like I was going to finally develop at least a little proficiency with a controller in first person games. Now, nearly two years later, I am still no where near as good in a first person game as I was on a PC with my trackball, but amongst controller users, I have adapted and fare reasonably well enough to truly enjoy myself. Overall, I'm still very happy with my conversion to consoles for online gaming though.

But for console gaming, if I could have a trackball built into the right arm of my recliner with a couple of buttons on either side and a D-pad with a couple of thumb buttons to hold in my left hand.... I'd be in first person gaming heaven! I never used my keyboard in PC first person games.. I held a USB Gamepad in my left hand to use the D-pad for movement, the left trigger for strafing and could reach a couple of buttons with my thumb for reloads, etc. lol! And yes, I kicked a$$ in those days. :smt002

Inverted

My first PC game was Wing Commander so the whole back is up thing got hard wired into my head at a young age. I just can't play non-inverted.

Inverted all the way. I too was an early Wing Commander player so that might be why. Non-inverted messes me up big-time.

What you talking about Willis! *only because that was in the poll*

But for the most part it depends on the game. Typically I use inverted, or I guess that what it is, where when I push forward I look down, pull back to look up, so I guess thats inverted, if not, well I'm a retard so it doesn't really matter then does it!! http://mars.walagata.com/w/jjlee138/Smileys/Special_Ed_Eyes.gif

Flight - I have to go inverted

FPS and everything else - I have to go non-inverted.

Weird, I know...

You read my mind all those old computer games and top gun or was it afterburner or something like that for the NES helped me form then inverted way of playing.

in flight sims i use "inverted" because everyone knows you pull back on the stick to go up and vice-versa--but when i look at something and it moves toward the ceiling--my crosshairs (point of focus) shifts up too

maybe the difference is in the way you look at the game--are you ding chavez or are you piloting ding chavez

It depends on the game and the controller. If I'm using a gamepad, I tend to use non-inverted. For a joystick, inverted. I also tend to stick with the default control settings. For one FPS I'll use inverted, another non-inverted. There is usually a reason they have the default settings one way or the other. Either way, I still make the best target out there! :goatlove1
