I just found this (http://forums.xbox.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=9701644) on the Xbox forums (and am saving you the horror of going there)...

How To: Wrap up an AT-AT with a Snowspeeder

Posted: 09-23-2004 11:19 AM

On the Hoth level, spawn as a pilot in the hanger where the
snowspeeders are. Get in one of them, and sit there till you see a bot
spawn near you. Press right on the D pad to tell them to get in. You
can tell they got in when you see the gun on the rear move around a
bit. Hit the A button to take off (if you don't press anything else,
you'll fly out of the hangar automatically).

Now, the fun part.

Head out to the battlefield and find an AT-AT. Fly over it's head to
get behind it, then turn around. Your right analog stick is your
throttle. Pushing up makes you go fast, pulling back makes you go slow.
Get fairly low to the ground (maybe level with the AT-AT's knees) and
going as slow as possible (keep pulling back on the right stick) fly
past the AT-AT. When you get just a bit in front of it, turn so you cut
in front of it and fly past it on the other side. At this point, your
bot should have thrown the tow hook out to snag the AT-AT. You'll see
the black cable coming from the back of your snowspeeder.

Make sure you're going as slow as possible by pulling back on the right stick the whole time.

Now, you just keep circling around the AT-AT. Try not to get too far
away from it or the cable will snap or disconnect. You gotta make a
good 5 circles (I didn't count) around the AT-AT before it goes down.
As you're circling it, you'll see the black cable all wound up around
it's legs.

Finally, you'll get a message that pops up saying the AT-AT was destroyed. Good job!

See you bizzos on Hoth tonight.

Thanks for the tip!

Here's my Snowspeeder story:

Last night, after playing through a bunch of maps, we finally get to Hoth. "Oh boy", I think, "Now I can finally jump in a Snowspeeder and take down an AT-AT!!"

I spawn as a Rebel pilot in the Hangar where a shiny new Snowspeeder is waiting for me. I jump in and tell some other dude to jump in and man the tow cable. All set, I hit the A button and rise into the air. "Okay, here we go!" I think, "I'm going to be just like Luke Skywalker!!!"

I jam the stick up, the Snowspeeder lurches upward, and I smash into the hangar ceiling in a huge fireball, killing me and my gunner. I couldn't even get out of the damn hangar. Sad.

LOL! I did the exact same thing only on single player.

Using the above tip, I have now been able to succesfully take out 4 AT-AT walkers! I've got it down to a science now! :smt003

Same here. I was trying to get a real player to take the tow cable gun but after waiting 30 seconds with no answer I told a bot to. I took out 4 before I crashed.

Thanks for the tip/reminder Circ.

One more tip on the speeders. If you decide to go back to Echo base to
pick up a gunner be sure to land with the speeder facing away from the
base. When you take off, it only goes forward, so if you are facing the
base, you will fly right inside and blow up.

When you hit A button to launch you can start to turn the ship before it actually moves forward, crank the speed back for slowest and it buys you a couple extra seconds to get it turned. Unless you pull right in the hanger than well it's speeder meet wall time, might as well bail out and have a bot take the speeder into the wall or use the black button (I think) to swap seats with the bot-try running gun with AI driving lol. Wait for a new speeder to be delivered. lol
