View Full Version : Teamwork in Battlefront

but after waiting 30 seconds with no answer I told a bot to.
One thing Porph said in another thread struck me as a problem I've
noticed in Battlefront. We need to talk folks!
Please! :smt001 I got into the AGE room late last night for a bit and
noone was saying a thing. I asked a few questions, no response. Where
is
everyone? no response. This game can only be won with a team
strategy.
I got into the shield bunker on Endor with no idea how to destroy it.
Asked if anyone on my team knew how to do it? No reponse. I actually
had to break and and ask can anyone hear me?Finally a response! I
don't want to sound like
as ass or anything but it gets frustrating to feel all alone on a team
trying to take a map. Especially when we were out numbered to begin
with. Every time I've run against a team that works together
against a
team that does not. The team that does not gets over run in record
time. I love to pay this game just for fun. But it sure is more fun to
win!:smt002

Yeah, you just came in late, because there was a lot of chatting when we were playing earlier. We working very well as a team. I agree, I like teamwork and hope we can work better as we learn this game.

Been noticing this myself also. I have gone through the same thing when playing. I say, "Need help in back spawn! We are going to lose our vehicals soon!" *crickets churping*.
Just like you, only when I said is anyone there did someone answer. Hell I don't care if you are busy fighting somewhere else let your team know. This was a big source of frustration for me last night and since no one was talking I just went lone wolf like everyone else. We of course lost those maps.

Yeah teamwork is the key to this game. I dont talk very much in this game, not for lack of trying or anything, just dont know where the hell I am to tell another teammate. I guess my big thing is that I dont know who I am talking too. I have to pause the game and go to players list to even find out who is on my team and that takes like a minute or so to even figure that out. I have noticed that when a team in communicating more, the games last a big longer for the winning/loosing team. I dont necessiarly do the lone wolf thing, just never know where I am and then, oh crap, bad guys, blast blast, someone killed Tanner. I try to work with folks trying to take over spawn points, but I will say this, the team we played last night, dont remember who was on my team, but I do remember Porph, Vamp, Circ being on the other one, well talk about teamwork, they would mount up in tanks and planes, move to a spawn point, defend and capture, then move to another one in full force, the game lasted all of about 3 minutes. Not sure to be angry of commend them on thier teamwork since my blasters did nothing to their tanks. Good use of teamwork none the less.

Communication has always been an issue on LIVE. When I first bought R63 I thought it was going to be great to coordinate attacks and what not. The only games of R63 I ever played werenothing more than frag fests. Boooring. Same on Crimson Skies team games.
We havegreat voice capabilities with LIVE. Idon't understand why they seldom get used. Anyway I'm hoping to be able to get online withSW:BF soon and I'm anxious to try it out. Teamwork that is.

It's not that people are not coordinating (which that aren't since they are not talking at all) it's that they are not talking at all. Yeah it has been a problem but I thinksomething else is the cause. It's weird.

Maybe its just like tanner said and many people don't know the maps well enough yet. I know when I'm on single player and the message comes up about losing "west command bunker" or whatever, I never know where that is.If someone told me"Get to the west bunker to defend", I would have to say, "Sure, first, where the hell am I, and second, where the hell is it?"
Maybe its just a learning curve for the game?

I never talked when I first started playing R63 for example, only because I never knew where I was. When I finally, finally, learned where the hell i was, Black Arrow comes out. But this time is was different, sice we all had to learn the new maps, thus is true in BF, but at least in BA I could see who was talking, so that helps somewhat. I guess people just like blowing something up or killing someone so they lonewolf it to do just that.
I think that with some more playing time with everyone, more knowledge of the maps, it will all come together. Pretty soon, everyone will be laughing again, talking up a storm, and working together as a team.

...to destroy the bunker shields (or what ever they are called) you have to frag the computer inside the bunker... you will know when you destroy it.

Like Tanner and some others said, I don't talk in this game because:
1) I don't know what in the hell I'm doing
2) I don't know where in the hell I am
3) I don't know where in the hell to go when someone tells me to go there
4) I don't know who in the hell is on my team
5) I don't know who the hell is talking

Good points all. I do try to say when calling for help, to call
out an actual location on the map. Like, top middle spawn, or lower
right map spawn etc, etc. I guess once we get to know the maps better it
will get better.

I was trying to communicateto you inmatch last night and no one was responding. We were on the Naboo map (The one that takes place in a city, not the field.)I kept saying that we needed to team up to take out Judgement and Vjornaxx (I think it was those two) who were in a CIS tank because the main cannon on the CIS tank will rip a vehicle to shreds and I was met with silence. I dunno. Maybe my headset wasn't working or something. Still I share your complaint about the lack of communication in this game. It's definitelya gamewere everyone has to work together in order to accomplish something.

You know I was just reading a thread at the Xbox forums where someone
complained about communication problems among teams. Maybe there is more to us
not communicating than I first thought. I remember the map last night
on Naboo but I didn't realize we were having communication problems on
it. That might explain a lot.

My main problem is that I dont know what to call the way points. I will take a look at the maps tonight and see if I can come up with soom standard names and post up some maps.
Also, we need to find a better way to control spawn areas. Me and <SPAN id=_ctl0__ctl1__ctl0_DgUsers__ctl4_LblUserName>Captain Haddock</SPAN> traded two spawns about 6 times in a row yesterday. I finally stopped running back and forth and just camped and shot him. But this is a problem on all maps. We all run around like chickens, not gaurding the points we have secured. We need to have "runners" that go out in teams of two, and have "sitters" that stay back and guard the secured way points. Though, this will be tough unless we get some commom names for the way points. Im always saying ... " Im at the wood hut thinggy, on the ummm, south, no, ummm east side...ah hell, I dont know"...

i agree with everyone, i am still new to the maps cause i havent got to play much of this yet, so if you were to aske me were i was i would say something like like upper left spawn are, or something like that, once we all play more of this and get used to the maps it should be easier, and we do need to hold all points of the maps that we secure.

They should have put small labels on control points in the view map in the HUD.

Good ideas Sharky. I definately think we need to cover each other in games. Knowing the map layout and learning to utilize all of the tools is also important. I was impressed with Vjornaxx yesterday. Even though he killed me every time I saw him, he had very creative tactics.Always using mines, stealing our vehicles, etc. Ienjoyed the round on Naboo when the rebels took off with the X-wing, shot us up and then stole our AT-ST's and wiped us out. In fact, you may have been on that team. Can't remember now. Anyway, they we're always working together to cover each other.

I was wondering something. Even in the games where there IS communication, I only hear one or two people talking. Is it because that is all that are communicating, or is it because the communication is only limited to those in your immediate vicinity? I know in MotoGP, you can only hear the racer immediately in front of or in back of you. Everybody else is muted.
It doesn't make sense in this type of game, but I was wondering it nonetheless.

I find one of the most frustrating things is that your radar map rotates so depending on where you are facing dictates which ways is north and etc. I think one idea might be to add a compass to the maps you have in your post so that the players in this forum have a reference that everyone can identify with.

From reading the Xbox.com and Lucas Arts forums, there is a known issue with the communicators. Aparantly, there is a very slim chance of hearing everyone all the time in any game. Lag also doesn't help, but that's a universal thing. As far as I know (and I could be wrong) it isn't a distance thing, just a bug they are working to fix. I guess it's a big issue and a patch is being worked on by Lucas Arts. Remember though: all of this was learned from those forums, so take it with a grain of salt.

There isn't anyway to turn the auto-rotate off is there?
One thing that you can do is pull up the mini-map, but that takes quite a bit of dexterity if you are in a heavy fire-fight. I do use it to find the last remnants of my opposing team though.
edit: I believe the mini-map does toggle on and off. Maybe if you find yourself approaching a dangerous situation, you could pull it up and leave it up until things are not so hectic.

Frick, if they just put numbers to denote the capture points instead of the symbols, I think it would be hella easier to communicate. "Need backup at 5" or "ATST is Spawn raping 2, Bastards!":smt001

Right, Charlemagne!
Even if you do bother learning the Command Posts' names by hard, it won't do you any good as most gamers won't bother with this at all!
It's true that there are voice issues in Battlefront. I experience them all the time when I'm playing with friends that live in Belgium as I do. I hardly hear them, and I can hear others very well.
I think the communication problem (not the voice problem) is partly because some gamers are timid. Others aren't readily going to follow orders frome people they harldy know. Maybe it could help if you say who you are and who you address before issuing commands/suggestions.
eg: "Slide to all! Getcher rears to Echo Base! Major mayhem going on and I wouldn't want any of you to miss out on this!" Party at the Base guaranteed.

I was playing BF last night and learned the hard way that it VERY easy to lose AT-ST walkers at rear CPs. The bots tend not to stand guard and you can sneak up between spawns and steal a walker or two. Plus, if you have a platoon, you can then capture the CP using the walker standing guard.
I'm sure this works with other vehicles as well, I just haven't seen it first hand.

Reading this thread I was thinking the same thing that someone later mentioned. I wish the mini map had letter/numbers instead of the colored circles... Would have been allot easier.
There's something else that hampers teamwork. It's the number of people playing. If you join a general publicgame (with many people playing) there will be no teamwork. It's just a race to the vehicles. If you join anAGE game you will have about 4-6 people playing, and that's only about 2-3 people to a side. It's really hard to coordinate a plan to hold down a giant map with only 2 people, and a bunch of mindless bots... What are you going to do? Hold down to command points by camping them out while leaving 4-5 other free for the picking? The best strategy seems to be running around like a chicken with your head cut off and try to take as many as you can as fast as you can faster than the 2 guys on the other side. Oh well back to spamming the XBOX forums for more BF players : )

I'm still trying to learn all the controls and features. Once I get those down, I will get the team work going more.
More importantly than knowing the functions is knowing the maps. If someone says, "In in trouble at the courtyard" it means, "Get you ass into the courtyard and kick the living Sh** out of everyone that turns your retical red by any means possible, or we are going to lose the g@#Damn CP!"
It isn't that difficult. Of course, if you die in the pocess, you will know where to spawn so you can get to the action in the shortest amout of time.
Of course, we I was playing with Proph, I had know idea what any of the CP were called. So, I couldn't help him much either.
Just my two cents,

I think there's aissue with this game. Last night a box popped up to boot somebody and I asked "how do I vote someone out?", someone said "just a minute" and then I didn't hear anything the rest of the match. When I played BA with you guys a couple weeks ago, everything was clear and no problems at all. I had to go and play a ESPN NFL game against Predicon after you guys switched server and I could hear him fine.

Since you can not really control who is on your teamit makes it very difficult to work on cooperation as many people are focused on the most kills or tank buster or taking a vehicle when they are not a pilot. LOL That last one erks me, Now dont get me wrong I am all for jumping in a vehicle if you need to or stealing one from an enemy base. But vehicles should almost always be occupied by a pilot.
Some ideas to win - At least 1 sniper should hide in view of a command post, especially the rear ones far away the main battle. This is boring I know but 1 sniper can often take outmany enemies 1 at a time and prevent them from taking a rear command post. Often freeing up a vehicle or 2 in the process since they must get out to take a post.
- as above let your player controlled pilots command your vehicles. Pilots regen vehicles slowly, Some bigger vehicles can hold multiple pilots thus increasing the longevity of your vehicles.
- Stay near repair droids when in vehicles and the enemy has superior firepower with their vehicles. On the one Hoth (?) map with the cave where the one team has the 2 tanks and the big walker (sorry dont know the names off top of head). Dont rush out to meet them 9 out of 10 times the firepower in thoise combines vehicles will wipe you out. Stay by the repair droids and take them out slowly, you will repair faster then they can fire and almost assuredly kill them over and over.
- Destroy repair droids near you main bases should your enemy have vehicles and you do not. Cant remember the map (sorry) but it is the one with water and the tower huts. Where one side gets tanks or walkers and the other does not. Take out those 2 reapir droind on either side of the beach. If you do not they can stand there forever unless you have 4 or 5 rocket launchers going at them all at once.
- Snipers - use those recon droids agianst vehicles and open areas where the enemy needs to cross to get to you. People are starting to use this tactic quite often now. Stay near a ammo droid and you can repeat indefinatly.
well thats all for now- Feel free to add or destroy my ideas for winning. lol Hopefully they will make some updates in the future to allow set teams of people can play and work out tactics with friends instead of just the usual free for all that tneds to occur.
Hope someone finds some of this helpfull.

teamwork is practically an oxymoron in this game... People are always concerned with there own stats, and kills.
One of the best strategies for this game is to team up with another online player and stick together. Have one person on point and one on support(i dont know my military terms im a damb canadian) each of you bring 2 ai players with you. this creates a group of 6 if my math is correct. You can become an awsome commando unit like this. Its even better if one of you is a medic/engineer. That is a very helpful class.
I cant stressthis enough....<font size="6">C</font>ommunication, <font size="5">C</font>ommunication, <font size="4">C</font>ommunication.
tell your buddy u need help defending a base, ask for help attacking something, ask for help in repairing atank or turret.
Not only is this helpful, but it makes the game fun and exciting.
The headset wasnt created to breath into and creating darth vader sounds, and it wasnt creating so i could hear you and your wife discuss the baby crap you had to clean up off the floor( sorry but really, if you can remember please turn of the mic when having a convo that doesnt involve in game discusson ...I do understand this happens sometimes by acciddent)
Remember think not what you can do for yourself, but what you can do for your teammates!!

This is generally why I start my own games with people from my FL. I try to get into games with the general public and all I ever hear usually falls into a few main categories, none of which have anything to do with the game.
1.Talking to Friends like your on the phone, nothing at all to do with the game.
2. Random Babbling/Cursing/Jokes about one's mother (although this can be funny at times)
3. Heavy Breathing
Please people, take the damn microphone out of your mouth. I was playing last night around midnight and someone was trying to set up a plan while someone else sounded like they just ran a marathon. All I got was "Nite, follow <breeeeeeethe>and when <Breeeeeeeeeeeethe> capture <Breeeeeeeeeeeeethe> ok lets go..." :smt017

I, too, am guilty of being quiet in a room where either nobody's talking or just stupid crap is being said. I just don't want to be that guy who is the only person dressed up at a Halloween party. Hey, I grew up around a CB radio, so I'll be the first one to call out for all the Teddy Bears with their ears on.
I love the idea of labeling spawn points. I just usually say "Upper east point on the map" or something to that nature. I HATE hearing "Somebody come over here quick.. I can't take them all." I started getting this idea that everyone got invited to a LAN party except me, cuz I have no clue where the hell "here" is." Throw a bone.
No matter what, you can't sound worse than me on one of my off-nights saying something like: "Empty enemy vehicle in front of the... um.... that big... nevermind, one of you guys just blew it up."
1.Talking to Friends like your on the phone, nothing at all to do with the game.
2. Random Babbling/Cursing/Jokes about one's mother (although this can be funny at times)
3. Heavy Breathing
1) My work buddy was subject to a Kerry/Bush debate. I've sat through conversations where I couldn't tell if they were talking to somebody in the game or talking on the phone.
2)
A: Hoth level, some little kid talking about "My Vehicles this" and "Awww, Come On!! that"... This one kid got on my nerves so much, I was like "How do you change your mic to the 'little' kid setting? I only found 'normal' and 'robot'?" Everybody laughed and one dude actually responded, "Go into options, then audio..."
B: Some girl was playing on the Bespin level as it was her "first time" and she told us right away not to say anything in appropriate because her guy friends were listening... she kept screaming and yelling talking about getting shot in the butt... so I responded, "Hey guy friends, show her where the mute button is! Her screaming is right in the ear." It got a little more profane after that from some of the other equally miffed guys, so I left.
3) Besides somebody having the voice come through their speakers so that it creates that echo-effect, heavy breathing is the worst. I commented "Look, I know we're all Star Wars fans, and stereotyping says we should be heavy breathers, but you gotta cut that out because you're starting to turn me on." Surprisingly, it worked.
