View Full Version : Battlefront: CIS overpowered?

Does anyone else besides me think that the CIS is overpowered? I'mtalking mainly about the Super Battle Droid with it's wrist rocket launcher and the Droideka unit with it's shield, which really gives it an advantage in taking over command points along with straight out fire fights.
Let's say you're a Jet Trooper and you come across a Droideka who put's it shields up the moment it sees you. It will take you2 direct blasts from the EMP launcher in order to take down the shield, plus another EMP shot to kill the thing. This might not be so bad if the EMP was fast firing, but it's not. You have to reload after two shots and the Droideka's shield recharges quick.A Jet Trooper does have the advantage of manueverabilty but if you're unfortunate enough to run into a Droideka in a hallway or crowded area you're pretty much dead. And (judging from my experience) aJet Trooper is the only unit that really stands a chance in a one on one fight against a Droideka. If you're a sniper or pilot or even a rocket launcher guy you're pretty much screwed.
I've been playing the single player game and everytime I'm the clone army I have to really, really fight to win. When I'm CIS I don't need to even try. Does anyone else share this opinion?

i disagree with the droideka, it's balanced with it's movement. if it walks it's slow as hell, and rolling it has no weapons or defense.
as for the sheilds, with some teamwork two people could pound the crap out of it and deplete the sheilds, and once the sheilds are up it takes a while to recharge.
as for the super battle droid, maybe a little higher power, but nothing insanely special.
So far, I only play the Super Battle Droid or the Droideka when I'm on
a CIS team, so that probably says something right there. I think the
Droideka's movement while unfolded is a real balancer, but if you are
with a few teammates, and team damage is off, the droideka kicks total
ass.
I usually throw one or two detonators at them, and the take a shot with
the rocket launcher in an attempt to take them out, but I'm not very
successfui doing that (so far).

I need more time to figure out the quirks. With the jet troopers I have gotten good at firing the emp and throwing a grenade right after one another. If done right at the feet of a droideka it takes the sheild all the way down or pretty close to it. You can then switch to the blaster and finish them off using your manuverability against them. But that's just with one class against one class in the CIS army.
The droideka's movement is sooo slow.
The Super Battle Droid messes me up almost everytime. I have to catch the player unaware or I'm toast.

i kinda do this but what i do is i shot the sheild once, then throw a
grenade, then shot the second time. if timed right you can shot the
sheild the 2nd time before the grenade blows up. so if you can knock
the sheild down before the grenade blows up the grenade will either
kill the droideka or get his energy down a lot.

What I find is helpful against a Droideka is flanking them and letting them have it with grenades or an EMP. Because of their slow maneverability (sp?), they are unable to turn fast enough to get ya!

If you have good aim CIS can usually be out gunned. The emp launcher and flight for the shock trooper is a pretty mean combo. A single direct hit on anything is instant kill including the droideka without a shield. On a side note when ever I choose the super battle droid I switch his main weapon to tri shot. I find it better for taking out those pesky fliers.

This is a great tactic. Ditto with the EMP, grenade, EMP. These things work!
I usually get whacked pretty hard by the SBDs -- esp. against human opponents or hard AI. I'm not really sure what to do. My usual tactic is to try to flank the SBDs while they are beating on some AIs. This usually works as long as there are not too many of them.

I love taking on the Droidekas if it's a person. Bots just aren't as satisfying. Use the jet pack guy even in close quarters, I jump jet over him, straight at him most times he won't be able to get his angle high enough to get me or shoots at easier targets behind me-once behind him he has 2 choices, turn slowly to get meallowing more than enough time to strafe and fire my required 3 EMPs at him orhis second choice, covert and roll away, risky move but you'd be surprised how many do it, one shot kill. If you see one roilling up on you, rush it. You can usually get one shot off before he converts-if your acurate he's dead, jump jet over him reloading. It takes a few tries but once you get the distance correct for jumping him without being shot down it's like taking candy from an Ewok.
Now being a Droideka?I typically know my sheilds aren't going to last against a crowd for very long, roll ahead of your troops and take out the heavily armoured guys first, by then your dead but you both provided a sheild for your lighter armoured soldiers and taken a few of those dirty clones with you. I rarely use the Destroyers, they just aren't real effective. There good for quickly rolling up to a spawn and "sheilds up" to hold it long enough but you can't call any AIto you to help hold it. Sometimes you get lucky. Good luck.

I think the CIS is superior to the other factions because of the Super and Droidekas. My buddy and I also play Kamino and he beats me most of the time with CIS. You have a shot against them, but it won't be a clean sweep. And I always seem to join games where I am AGAINST CIS and they are ahead by 20 or so! Bollocks!

I'm a bit remiss in saying this 'cause I like taking CIS, but the droidekas aren't even close to all that. You can whoop their azz with a silly trooper. The second they come rolling in start plugging away and before they get fully deployed they'll be done. Or if you have the arc trooper it's just shooting fish in a barrel. Just don't panic, 'cause you'll shoot early and miss and then you're in for a fight. Otherwise keep your cool and when he starts to deploy one rocket and done. As for super droids you don't stand a chance might as well give up!

I think if you are a straight trooper, then yeah your in for a fight with the CIS because most people choose the Super Battle Droid or Driodika. I personally always use an Arc Trooper (Unless I'm using vehicles, then I use the pilot).
The Arc Trooper is a good counter to the Super Battle Droid and Driodika, especially on a map without a lot of open areas. The Arc has two shots before reloading, which can usually get a weak Driodika or a SBD, but the thing that is really useful, is the Driodikas and SBD usually rush you, which is a godsend for a player using mines. I think 90% of my kills come from droidikas rolling over mines... lol
Now on the other hand, you want an unstoppable combo? Here's something to try with a buddy. Have your buddy choose a Driodika and you hug the back of him with a pilot. The CIS pilot can hold his own with that grenade launcher, but more importantly, while the Driodika is advancing he repairs him with his fusion torch and the shield protects the pilot.
With two or three teams working like this, you can cut down a lot of enemies.

I was playing last night and we had every point but one. The next thing I know thier team all go Droideka and pretty much take over the whole map and win. So yeah I kinda agree with ya.

They can be tough but I do not think they are overpowered since I have lost as CIS and taken CIS out from map to map. You just cant go all out head to head, gotta move a bit and be smart around the droidika's.

Yeah, I typically have a problem with CIS as I favor the rifle over rockets (Jet Trooper and Arc Trooper)... So I just try to out maneuver them with rolls... but 99% they have company with them (as in 2 SBD's). And I just can't take on SBD and Droideka combos, so I'm always puzzled when I hear "oh, you can just flank them."
I read somewhere that you can just run up and jump over them?! I'd like to see that. This would be the equivalence of smashing a beer bottle over my head to show I'm too crazy to fight.

I've noticed that droideka guns are mounted MUCH lower than the rest of the characters. You can use this to an advantage by using a low obstruction between you, such as a ramp, a hill, a rock, railing, etc..... I saw somebody last night that had jumped over the rail around the edges of the platforms on Bespin and it was impossible to hit them with the droidekas.

Yeah, I was one of those doofuses who originally said "Droideka's...oh just flank them!" :sed1
I've found, the more I play, the less that works! What I do if I run into Droideka(s) is try to hit 'em and then run for some cover!
