Midway through June this year I received a platinum addition of Fallout 3 along with Lot Planet 2. I haven't opened the Fallout game yet and I'm really looking forward to finally getting a chance to play it. The platinum addition doesn't come with any DLC so I'm taking my copy back to Walmart this evening andgetting my money back. GameStop has the Game of the Year addition with all 5 DLC's included for $40.00 which is the best value for the buck I can find. I'm excited and can't wait to give it a go. I've watched several hours of game play videos and researched some more at"The Vault" from Wiki.
I'm just curious of those who have played thegame and some of the DLC if you have any advice as I've heard this game can get hard if you venture in the wrong places. Also does anyone know if playing Operation Anchorage early on to obtain the Power Armor training is feasible?

IIRC the enemy classes scale with you as you level. It's never too hard to the point of being impossible, but depending on the number and type of enemy it can get difficult in certain areas. It's mostly completely random since enemies tend to roam on the overworld. Doing OA early can be feasible if you want Power Armor, you get the training and an antiquated set.

Yeah I would defenitely do the OA DLC quickly. You will then be qualified to use all power armor. However, make sure to adjust your skill set with that in mind. I would be sure to take some points to small guns as that is what you will be primarily using in OA. Also save alot. I generally kept 4-5 saved games that I would rotate just to be sure I didn't put myself in an unescapable jam. In OA you don't need to worry about ammo or health as it is just a combat simulator. Every "check-point" will have an ammo restock and health restock. Also the Mothership Zeta DLC is a good one to run early because it will give you access to some of the best weaponry right off, and it is not that difficult to complete. Also in MZ, you can collect alien glue which is useful for repairing weapons.
Excellent game, it will draw you in for hours. Enjoy, if you have any other questions when you get in just post in here and I'll help as best I can.

Well I'm level 20 as of this reply and I have to agree with you 100%, it's been an excellent game so far! I still have quite a few submissions and main quest line missions to get started / finish. But I have a question now about leveling up further. Asmentioned earlier I have reached level 20. Will I stop leveling now until I've finished the main story in which case I canthen play the DLC Brotherhood of Steel? Or can I just continue to play as normal and keep leveling? And BTW thanks guys for the tips / replies above.
EDIT:
Never mind I just found the answer at "The Vault Wiki": In order to access the new story content from Broken Steel, the player has to have finished the main storyline from the base game. However, the level cap expansion will take effect upon installation of the add-on, so players previously stalled at level 20 will once again accumulate XP even if they haven't finished the main storyline.

Good choice on returning the Platnum edition and getting the Game of the Year version.
I enjoyed all the DLC; a refreshing change of scenery (except Broken Steel) from the grey wastelands.
I didn't buy Fallout3 until the GotY version released. It was a long hard wait, too.
I really wanted to play Fallout3, but I knew I wanted all the DLC bundled together.
I'll probably do the same for Fallout:Vegas - wait a year until there's a GotY version.
Pretty much visited every place in Fallout3, and completed every achievement. Took my time and enjoyed it all. One of my favoirte games this gen.
Enjoy!

I thought this was just going to be another expansion or DLC. Turns out it's a whole game on it's own complete with 50 new achievements and 1000GS points. We will be able to import our Fallout 3 character right?

No its a completely new game. You are starting from the beginning. Check out some of the assorted info scattered on the web. The biggest things I'm looking forward to are the Call of Duty aiming, and being able to target specific spots on the body in V.A.T.S. while unarmed or with melee weapons. Well that and the fact that vegas wasn't destroyed by the bombs.

Totally different character, he's not a Vault dweller to begin with.

sorry bout that man. sounds like you get to start pretty much right away though. no more crawling around on the floor like a baby in the new one. i think you take a personality test from the guy that saves you in the desert and then you are pretty much good to go.
i am also looking forward to the hardcore mode where you can get dehydrated, and stimpacks work over time instead of immediately.
