View Full Version : Hot spiked cider
I always get a premade gallon of apple cider every year and wanting to give it a little kick this year. I have read to use dark rum or apple brandy to spike it. Have any of you tried these in hot apple cider. I know heat and alcohol some times dont mix and I dont really want to set my house on fire. I am in no mood after turkey day to buy ingredients to make own cider but want to take the easy way out and mix 2 things.... premade cider and alcohol...

We love hot mulled cider. We start with a gallon or two of store bought cider, throw in a couple of sticks of cinnamon and around a dozen whole cloves, and let it warm on the stove over low heat. When it is nice and toasty, pour it through a strainer into a mug leaving enough room for a shot of alcohol. We typically use an Apple Brandy or Applejack, but I have also had it with regular brandy and it is good, but less apple-ly.

What my gf's aunt does for cold tailgates is to heat up some cider and then add some "Hot Damn 100 proof" to it. I really like it, as does everyone else at our tailgate.
A couple good ideas... hot damn and applejack I will have to try both... Im headed to the liquor store this week to hit it hard this weekend.. Thanks guys!

You are best to add it after its hot as to not evap all of the alcohol. Alcohol evaps at a much lower heat.
