I just bought because I've heard how great it is for XBL. The only problem is...I suck and get killed a lot!!!

Any nuggets of advice so that I can compete would be great!

here is a list of helps we posted from the forum we left to start this one: (this is from many different people so it's going to be long)

anytime your tactically positioned....do it in a lean....also if you're found, move to another spot...
If you can't beat 'em, out think 'em. Going head-to-head isn't working because your aim aint all that, so what you'll need to do is find a way to flank your enemies or get behind them. Camping in one spot over and over and over again doesn't really accomplish this. Camping can help give you the advantage, but you need to choose new camp spots each time, rather than the same ones.

To go along with the camping routine here, you can pick an out of way spot. When you pick off one or two, and notice no more coming from that direction, go ahead and move to a new camp spot. But not just a random one, no, a camp spot where you have a keen eye on your last camp spot. That way when enemies to go investigate their fallen comrades, you'll be waiting to ambush, and they'll think you're somewhere you're not.

It all reminds me of the rope-a-dope thing in boxing. Make your foe think you're doing one thing, while doing something entirely different. You'll see the better R6 players do this. When they run into an enemy they can't quite get to without killing themselves, they go around and flank them from the back. But before they do so, they usually toss a few grenades as they retreat to make the enemy think they're still in their last location. Of course, the ultimate and godly R6 players will be smart enough to outflank the flankers.

As for aiming and hand-eye coordination, I can't help with that. BUT, you could always try using remote charges instead. Those don't take much aim.
don't run around corners always stop as close to a corner as possible and lean around to see if someone is looking that way, or is looking another direction.

while shooting at someone never hold down the trigger for a long period of time. shot is a short 3-5 shot burst.

when shotting try to move as little as possible, the more you move the less accurate your shot is.

if possible don't run to a spot out in open, use boxes, floats what ever is there for cover. if you have to go out in the open head in a direction that is the fastest route to some cover.

while moving keep an eye on your enviorment. scan the enviorment as you move (if there is a window in front of you look at it and see if someone is there, look to your right/left side of the screen and continue the scanning)

if you are coming up on a box while walking don't just run past it turn enough while walking to see if someone is there.

if you have surround sound pay attention to the sounds coming out. (if you have dolby digital sound you will hear people walking on the front right/left side and the back right/left side of you. if you can't turn it up loud at night cause of to much bass turn the bass boast on the sub off or turn the sub off completely. the sounds coming out of the satellite speakers is much more important in this game than the bass is. feeling the explosion is great but you need to hear which was shots/footsteps are coming from more)

if you gonna camp if make sure your back is against a wall/fence/box or something so you won't have to worry about someone coming from behind you. also don't be zoomed in and just look in one direction. if you in a corner the is still more than one way someone can get you and you not even see them. exsample on airport one in the spawn that is by the stair going up to the top offices if you are in the corner by the bottum door (that goes in the hallway to the other spawn) waiting for someone to come out someone could come and shot you from the top of the stairs. same way if you are at the bottom of the stair looking down to the airfield. if you have someone there watching your back don't just assume noone will get you from behind. the guy behind you might get killed when they least expect it shot gar

my only other advice would be to make sure you are comfortable with the x and y sensitivity, and if you really want to be good, play every day, it will help.

The vast majority of the tips Soul posted were gathered together for
ME! I've been playing RS3 with these guys for going on 4 months
now and I'm just reaching the SUCK level. :) I (this is no shit,
I have witnesses) had -2 kills and about 50 deaths before I even got
into positive numbers! ( I fell off a building because I didn't
know how to get on the ladder and ran into one of my own
grenades.) My kill ratio still sucks but has been going up lately
and I'm learning to compensate for a complete lack of sufficient
coordination to win a close-in firefight. But I'm becoming an
accomplished "camper" (I prefer the phrase: Tactical Positioning over
Camping). Don't let anyone piss in your ear that "camping" is a
bad thing! Everyone does it, just some to more extent than others
and the only time they bitch is when they get clipped by someone who
got the drop on them from a well chosen "campsite." ;)

You will settle on your favorite weapons and it may take some time
depending on your style. I noticed someone (one of the better
players) carrying an AK47 last night and I don't know HOW they manage
to be so good with it. One of the best guns to start with, IMO,
is the G3A3. Accurate, plenty of range, and a good scope.
Downside: only 21 rounds per clip, fairly slow to reload, no peripheral
vision at all when zoomed in. The M-16 has the same range and
scope and holds 31 rounds, but it sucks for accuracy after a couple of
rounds. Some people love it. I used it for a while, but I
prefer the M4. Same capacity, much better accuracy, less
magnification on the scope and it gives you some peripheral vision when
zoomed in. I use it on all maps where ther is less likelihood of
a lot of long-range shots. Which brings us to the maps. You
will learn them, and you can set up an on-line game with 2 players,
make it friends onlyl, and set the time high and start it with only you
in the room. Walk around those maps to your heart's content.

Sorry for the length, but I know how frustratring this game can be when
you are constanltly being owned and spending all your time in the
"dead-room."

Yup, that's my favorite. Except on small maps, then it's the M60 or a very large map then it's the m16 or g3a3

Yes, you get a lot more practice this way than sitting in the dead room for 4 mins. If everyone is agreeable, we can put together another round of sharpshooter soon.

I'll set up Moejunior for friends only sharpshooter as soon as I get home from work. Probably about 5:30 eastern.

*Edit* So if you don't have Moejunior on your friends list and want to play, send him an invite and i'll accept it when i get home.

I just started playing this game in the past few weeks, and it's been
ugly so far, esp when I get in rooms with people that are pretty
good. I like the tips to play Sharpshooter -- it makes a lot of
sense. One more experienced RS3 player on my friend's list had
told me to do that, too. I haven't followed that advice too
much, yet, but I think I will.

So far, my experience has been getting killed in the first 20 seconds
by some head shot that many times I don't even know where it came from
and then sitting in the "dead room" watching others play. I find
my aim is horrible, and people have told me to just tap the trigger for
a shot or two rather than holding it down and spraying it
everywhere. Some I have watched can just seem TO VERY QUICKLY
place the red dot on someone's head (even from a good distance) and
then take someone out with one quick shot. I can't come close to
that right now. Is it something that comes with practice?

And, any time I get in a "firefight" ... well, you can probably guess how that ends up. lol

like way2old said good gun to start off with is the g3a3, but after you
play for awhile you will probably want to change weapons cuase when you
zoom in with a g3a3 you can't see the left and right of you. i use the
g36c on every map. it's an accuracy gun i can snipe from a good
distance given it does take a few more shots sometime, but i like to
run around while zoomed it. when zoomed in with the g36c you can still
see left and right of you.

Learn where are the "hotspots" are. They are the points where both teams meet at from the word go. Once you have learned that you can then focus on where someonewill be and about where their head will be (depends if they are already there and ducking). If you do this then you can make sure your reticule is already in place before you round a corner or already at head level when they round the corner. This eliminates any time you would have spent aiming and you can just pop them. In "hotspots" with corners ALWAYS lean. Just a reminder to all you new guys though, open leaning isn't a "fair" tactic in AGE rooms. Use leaning only to look around an obeject. Just say no to Lean Walking.

thanks soul. ... sounds good. ..

and Porphyria, ... thanks, and yeah, I need to learn the maps
better. I sort of know them, but not too well, and I think others
seem to know them really really well. Learning those Hotspots
seems to be crucial. Sometimes when I play a team survival over
and over, I do seem to learn a few hotspots. When the game
starts, I'll go to one, trying to be careful, ... I'll crouch, get my
scope on, and get ready and lean around a corner to take a peek .. and
that's one of the times when I get popped. I guess I'm not fast
enough, yet. The other guy is already in place with his scope on
that hotspot ready for someone's head to pop out there. thanks.

What is ELO, what does it stand for, how do you raise it, how do you lower it, how do you bla bla bla...:smt102

Moefugger
07-07-2004, 11:19 AM
Elo is a doods last name. It's the guy that came up with the scoring system. It's used in chess and other events. In a nut shell, if you kill someone with a higher elo your elo will go up a lot more, if you kill someone with a lower elo it won't go up that much. If, however, you are killed by someone with an Elo a lot lower than yours it'll drop a lot, if you get killed by someone with a higher elo it won't drop that much.

Personally, Elo is fucked....go by kill/death ratio it's a much better guage.

Anonymous
07-07-2004, 11:43 AM
Furthermore....there are glitches that allow players to take their ELO to astonomical heights by cheating the system. Check out the so-called "top" players in RS3. They did not get those scores by normal means. Look at their kill ratios. These are known as "stat whores." When my ELO is a block on my annual review and affects my paycheck, I will pay serious attention to it.

I saw a guy in one of our games last night wh had OVER 360 hours of playing time in Team Survival since the great Stat Reset that happened earlier this year with a system upgrade (not sure of the exact date). Our MOST ACTIVE players have a little over half that! This guy had over 11000 kills. (of course after he was killed in a couple of games in a row he left) I'd like to see this guy. He may have eagle eyesight and lightning hand-eye coordination, but I'll bet you a dollar he has skin the color of a slug and is about 50 to 100 lbs overweight!

Ive never played Black Arrow online yet, is it like a team FPS game online (similar to counterstrike)? is there an AGE clan or something I can play with? cause yea I dont want to deal with people only concerned with kicking ass and smashing your face afterwards, I just want a fun game. I have counterstrike too If anyone plays that, Ive never played any FPS games on live yet though so I probably stink.

GVan...yep, it's a team FPS, with other game types, as well. Sharpshooter is a one-on-one game type, where you try to kill anybody else in the game. "Team Survival" seems to be the most popular game type, with two teams trying to pick each other off with last man standing determining the winner...just like many other games. You can generally find some AGErs playing...not as many as a few months ago, but still a few. I'd love to see this game make a comeback, since it's my all time fave, but a lot of the gang seems to have moved on to newer games.
