So, is anybody else picking this one up? Or, is it like in RL, wherethe sweet sciencehas taken a backseat to MMA and everyone's gonna stick w/ the UFC game?

FN3 was my favorite gamefor the 360 (until NHL 09 came out) and the demo for Round 4 is great, so I'm stoked as hell to get going withRound 4. They've moved the release date up to this week (23rd per GS and 25th per EA). IMO, they have the best roster to date. Tyson is of course the big draw but, personally, I'm more excited to finally get to do the Hagler vs. Hearns fights. One thing that might turn-off some people is that there won't be any button punches, you can only use the analog stick. Personally, that's my favorite change b/cI'veused the sticks from the start andloathed the button-mashers online b/c it did give them a real advantage. But, considering thatevery other poston all of the forums are calling to put the buttons back in, EA will probably cave-in and add them as a DL. Anyways, I hope we have enough old-school boxing fans around here to get a ladder or at least some one-nighters going.

I'd do a ladder. I loved FNR3. it was one of the best games. I will be getting the new one for sure.

It's on my GF list. I dug the demo and am interested to give it a go with some AGErs. I have an open spot currently, so I'll likely end up with this.

I have it on pre-order from TRU. They're running a Buy 1, Get 60% off sale on a very narrow number of games but this one is included. I picked this one up with Street Fighter IV for 60% off. w00t!

I loved the last FN, I played 3 careers, but if its sticks only then I probably wont pick it up. People complained it gave online people an advantage. You know why that is? Because you could actually do what you wanted when you wanted EVERY TIME! You really cant "Button Mash" as your guy will tire fast if you do, even pushing buttons you have to time stuff right and block/dodge. I tried the sticks, and went back to the buttons. I could never pull the punches I wanted 100% with the sticks. I tried the demo of the new one and though I loved what they did with it, I still cant pull the punches I want 100% with the sticks and that ruins it for me. Nothing more frustrating when you pull of a perfectly timed block then try to followit up with a hook only to throw a crap jab. So basically if they dont include a button option, the game will probably take a back seat to UFC for me.

Let me start by saying that I did not play a lot of FN3 online so I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that the only fair way to do it is to make both players play with the same rules - sticks v. sticks or buttons v. buttons. It's sorta like keyboard/mouse v. gamepad. If you can't do what you want with 100% efficiency, then probably neither can the other guy. Then again I also don't want to be forced to play the way my opponent is just to make it fair. I don't mean forced by the game design but by the online pragmatism of the design. Meh. Maybe there is no perfect solution. I dunno. I have a similar problem on the ground in UFC sometimes based on the sticks...

Yeah, I figured the buttons would be a deal breaker for some people which sucks, b/c by all accounts, the career mode is gonna be the shit. They should have just done online filters that would have made both sides happy. You're right, true button mashers didn't stand a chance against anyone that knew half of what they were doing. But, it was rough-going for the stick peoplewhen you ran into someone that knew what they were doing w/ the buttons b/c they could throw 3:1 punches w/ unrealistic combos. The stick vs. stick matchesjust felt to me more like real boxing b/c of the pace and combos. But, I really hope that they add the buttons back, just as long as I don't have to deal w/ them online.[;)]

It would be cool to me if they added filters for online as I only really played online against friends if at all. I loved the career mode but I just cant buy the game if its sticks only. If they do release it without the button option I will still buy it IF they do a D/L patch to add them in. I wouldnt even care if they just didnt allow you to use them online as I really just want it for the single player. You are correct in the 3:1 on buttons vs. sticks but thats only because with the buttons you do your moves faster than having to do a loop-de-loo on the stick while closing one eye and standing on one foot to pull off a punch. My friend liked the sticks and we boxed, he could beat me, but he complained about how "accurate" I was with the buttons. He agreed it was because you do make mistakes with the sticks vs hitting a button that only does one thing.

I think they f'd up taking out the buttons. They instantly lost alot of sales by doing that.

I picked up my copy today at lunch.[:D] But, now, I have to wait until f'ing 5 o'clock w/ it just sitting here staring at me.[8o|]

All I asked for for Father's Day was a couple nights of uninterrupted Fight Night goodness. So, I should be able to post some impressions in a day or two.

Picked mine up today and played a few rounds. Bigger learning curve than FN3, but I am getting used to it. The more I play it, the more I like it. Uppercuts and haymakers are more difficult so far.

Started one career with a created fighter and got my butt handed to me fast. Started another with my favorite boxer (Marvelous Marvin) and won the amateur tourney and my first pro fight.

<div style="CLEAR: both"></div>

Hell yeah, he's been my favoriteboxer since I was a kid. We need to do some rounds w/ the Marvelous Onevs. the Hitman and Hands of Stone to get some classics going (Hearns and Duran are two of my favorites also). But, I refuse to play as Sugar Ray. For some reason, he always got on my nerves.

I played about 6 hrs last night and I absolutely love this game. If it wasn't for the mrs yelling at me to come to bed at 2am, I probably would have pulled an allnighter and said screw work. And, even after USA's badass victory over Spain yesterday that had me wired and inspired for soccer, I had to turn down Kelsoe for a FIFA match. If you like boxing at all, you have to getit.

I played two matches online just to get a feel of things. The best addition I noticed was that you always fight on the left side, so there'll be no more quitting b/c someone got stuck on the right side view. I didn't see any lobbies but they do have a friend option for unranked. So far, things ran smooth as hell. FYI, Cotto is no match for Hagler or Hearns.[;)]

I got through about 6 matches past the amatuer tourney in the legacy. The best addition for it is that you can set which fighters are going to be in your career and rank them as you see fit and not have historical fighters mixed in w/ current ones. Most of the training is pretty difficult so far. I can pull-off all of the punches pretty damn welland I still had a time trying to keep up w/ some of the exercises. But, the hard onesseem to actually help your boxing and you can sim them for half-points if you just don't like them. In the actual fights, there is a BIG difference between Pro and Champion skill settings. In the Pro, I was crushing everyone within 2 rounds, but when I stepped up the difficulty, I barely got a decision and got KO'ed. They do have sliders but I didn't get a chance to fool w/ them. In Champion, the CPU can counter you all of the time and it's a hell of a lot harder to counter them. But, I'd say it will get better once I break some FN3 habits like holding block all of the time/parry. You can't just hold block to get a counter. You have to bring it up after a punch has been thrown to get the counter opportunity. So, it'll take some getting use to.

The main downside is that the CAB feature is crap. I tried a few times w/ the vision cam and my guy turned out the same each time, horrible.Maybe the import a picture feature will work betterfor getting your own face into the game.Although, I'm sure the community will have some good looking left-out fighters eventually. I'm still up in the air about the corner mini-game. I loved FN3's b/c you could see the cuts and bruises up close and the mini-games were interactice. The new system definitely adds more stategy to the mix but simply alotting points isn't quite as fun.

Overall, this game rocks.

Heh, fair enough. I tried out the CAB feature, and as much as I hate to say it, you're right. It's not that the CAB is ugly, it's that it doesn't look anything like me. I had to check the mirror to make sure I hadn't gone on a bender and ended up in some bizarre Face-Off scenario. Despite that, the game is fun, although I only got 2 matches in before being pulled away. I hope to dedicate some more time to this later in the week. Hit me up if you wanna go a few rounds. I could definitely stand to learn a thing or two against a live opponent.

Okay, so don't order from Toys R Us online. I ordered last Monday and they didn't ship my copy until today. It probably won't be here until the weekend at the earliest. Plus, they've tried to charge me an extra $3.00 for tax somehow. Then again, I got SF IV for 60% off, which is probably 50% after you add in shipping plus the extra tax. I'm looking forward to it coming in sometime in July. [Y]

Game is solid so far. I had the locking up crap happen to me though which was a PITA. Don't like the corner game either. Not my thing. The fights are great but I have to get some timing back.

I was planning on waiting another couple of weeks before I started a ladder interest thread. That way, people have enough time to polish up their game and we need a few more people to make a ladder viable. It's usually best if you have at least ten people to start up a ladder. But, I've seen 2 or 3 AGE'ers playing the game that haven't posted in here, so hopefully we get enough interest.

I had the best online fight the other night. I was Duran and the other guy was Sweet Pea. He went mainly for counters and I did the stick-and-move working on a cut. By the 8th round of a great chess-match of real boxing, I had control of the fight and he was really low on health and stamina. So, he made a last ditch attempt by crushing my nards followed by a body flurry. After I got out of danger, I gave him a good head-butt that gashed his cut. Then, all it took was one jab to get the TKO stoppage. I in no way condone illegal hits, but I'll use them if provoked. Anyways, it was a brilliant match and really showed how good this game is when you have people that actually want to box.

I tried it last night with no hud and it makes it even more realistic...I would recommend turning off the hud when the ladder starts up.

I am getting really tired of the cheap ass AI in this game. once you get up so far they counter every single punch you throw. Even countering over 50% of the punches I block I will still lose. WTF

I read on one of the forums that one of the sliderstakes care of the excessive counters on the higher skill levels. But, I haven't had to mess w/ them b/c I've been using Pro for my career and usually beat up the AI fairly easily and I've been spending more of my time doing online fights. Although, I did do the "beat Tyson on GOAT" achievements andthey turned out to be the best fights I've had w/ the CPU. You couldn't stand toe-to-toe w/ him at all b/c his counters would demolish you. But, I did beat him after a couple of tries by moving all of the time and not throwing too many punches (it seemed like if you threw more than a 3-4 punch combo, you're guaranteed to get countered).
