I've not looked a a lot of the upcoming games, but I don't recall seeing anything specificy that jumped out as being good for a ladder.


If you guys don't get 12 people I'd be glad to setup it up as a double elimination type tournement or even a round robbin style where everyone plays everyone.

Why is 8 people too few for a ladder? Back in the Tribes days we ran a ladder for 3 years with no more than 7-10 teams at a time.

I'll talk to Grumpy, but he always says to try and get 20 or more for a ladder. I think 12 would be ok given the fast paced nature of this game.





The reason that we'd want more is because anyone already involved in a challenge can't be challenged by anyone else. So, with only 8 people it will very quickly limit who can challenge who as everyone else will have to wait until matches are done.





If you guys don't care I can check with Grumpy and see what he thinks, but I know in the past he has always wanted to try and get around 20.

Even though I will go with the flow of the majority I say that instead of making people play with alternates during these ladder matches then how about we do some kind of tweak on it. *Granted I have never been involved in a ladder before so I might not be fully understanding the logistics of it but if someone has been camping at the top of a ladder and is untouchable with their main then after either they have been challenged by everyone once or twice and are still undefeated or if they have been at the top for over a month, then that person will then have to choose Random for all matches. *Keeping in mind that it would have to be on the honor system as the other person wouldn't know who the player is choosing. *If for some reason this plan is too odd for a ladder then we could still discuss options.

Alright, dont think anyone else is joining and unless some one complains here are the rules.


All challenges must be accepted if you donot acceptthe challenge it is considered a forfiet and therefore a loss. It will be recorded asso. With how fast the matches go and the time frames we have all challenges should be able to be accepted.If you lose a challenge you must wait on week to challenge the person you lost to.


Whoever is being challeneged will be the host. The matches will consist of Best of 5matches.Each match will consist of best of 3 rounds. Standard health dmg and all that jazz.


Character Selection


You must use a minimum of 2 characters per challenge. One character will be used for no more than 3 matches. You must change to a differnt character for every match. (IE you cant be ken three in a row. You would have to do Ken, then Ryu, Then ken again.) If the leader in the ladder is leader for over14 days they will be requred to use random selection for the rest of the challenges. These rules are to elminate someone dominating with one character. We want the best over all Street Fighter to win.





That is all i can think of jig any input on how long to run this and so forth. Personally i have no idea. Never done a ladder before. Any see any rules we might be missing?

Question... let's say you are the leader for 14 days. You are now required to choose random. Let's assume the next challenger defeats you. You now drop from #1 to #2. PROBALLY the easiest thing to do is to accept the challenges and record the events as you winning. it doesnt change anything in the ladder standings besides you each have an extra match that didnt happe.

I think that it would be silly to change the rules at this point. Although, if this were to change, it would have to work as follows: Challenger defeats opponent. Former opponent is allowed a rematch. On the other hand, if a challenger is defeated by the opponent, then no rematch is permitted. This is the only way to prevent challenges from going on endlessly.

Go to "edit profile", it should be right next to your username if you look at the top right of the screen above the search feature.

Actually, please PM Grumpyshrapnel. If I remember correctly, there may be a bug in the ladders that makes everything screw up if people are added after it has already started. I cant remember if he fixed this or not.

I just picked up the hori stick for the 360 to see if I could get used to using an arcade stick before SF4 came out. Man, I don't know how you guys do it. I never really played these games in the arcades so I never really got used to using the joystick, but it seems like everything takes much longer to do. I don't even know how to hold it, lol.

Also, what do you have your buttons mapped to? At first I had all the punches mapped across the top and all the kicks mapped on the bottom, with the fierce being the leftmost button, but I couldn't get used to that and mixed it up some to mimic the controller.

I don't know how long this thing is going to last, it gives me a nice soft object to punch when I'm frustrated that a move won't work, lol.

well generally with sticks you are one of two pepole. You put on a table or you put it o nthe floor bettween your legs. No one holds its on their lap. There are several ways to hold the joystick. All about prefrence. and the gvine button lay out is weak to fierce left to right and punches on top kicks on bottom.

I dunno maybe since you have so little experience with joysticks for this kind of game it is as awkward to you as it is now. Personally though I can't see how with time spent getting use to it, how you wouldn't at least prefer it over the crappy 360 D-Pad. I mean if you told me you prefered a legitmate D-pad over a joystick I would think that's just the nature of things. However the 360 d-pad makes me weep, I dunno how anyone uses charge players on that d-pad. For regular characters like Ryu I guess it's not as bad, but still that d-pad has me jumping foward or backward when I mean to walk foward or backward and jumping straigt up when I mean to jump directionally all the time.

I never really played SF2 much in the arcade when I was a kid... I just always played on the SNES using the dpad. If not for the xbox's utterly shit dpad, I would still be using a controller. Fortunately, I had a Hori stick laying around that I picked up for cheap on clearance. I decided that I was going to learn to use a stick... and I'm thankful I did. It takes several hours to fully get used to it, but it is BY FAR the superior choice. If you're on and want to give it a try sometime, I have an idea... we could play Ryu vs. Ryu and just have a fireball spamming contest until you get the hang of it. The key is repeatibilty, which the stick will allow you to have, whereas with the vague dpad, it's much more of a crapshoot. Afterwards, we could have a shoryuken competition. That will pretty much handle all the moves you may find difficult with the stick. The 360 piledriver motion is so stupid easy to pull off that you probably won't even need to practice it.

Top row is punches, bottom is kicks with them arranged left to right weak, medium, fierce.

I just got my hori and its slightly more difficult than i thought but
I'm def gonna get used to it. What is getting me used to it is that im
looking at the stick while I do moves and listen for the hadoken
confiemation. then ill do DP and listen for that confirmation. Its
working well considering i got the pad yesterday and im shooting
hadokens 70% of the time i input the command. try it and tell me what
you think.

I don't like 3 rounds cause it's brutal if you get dropped. You know you wait through the time it takes for 2 matches set at 3 rounds to finish then it's your turn you get dropped as you are about to take your turn then gotta wait again. You end up waiting for like 15 minutes.

That's a good point. *I think with just 2 or 3 people, 3 rounds works the best but any more than that and I agree that 2 rounds should probably be the max.*

well after my defeat from bafroom. I challenged Warlock (that's when he wasn't playing) i won by defult [6] Then warlock can back and challenged me but we never fought. And I wasn't going to take the lost, so placement on the ladder stayed the same.

If you click on the first stickied post in the Ladder Section, you can read about how to go about making challenges. You can only challenge people up to 3 spots ahead of you, and work your way up to being a contender. Start issuing those challenges...
