For Xbox 360 version.
Thought I’d share my thoughts on this game. First off I should say I haven’t really liked any of the PoP games to date. I have liked the way some of them looked and the way some of them have controlled but for the most part I would rent them, try them out and usually not finish them. Other then the first one I’ve never purchased one they just aren’t my type of game. They usually frustrate me with the crazy controls even when I’ve liked the story and graphics.
So this time around I skipped my usual first day purchase and decided I would rent it instead.
I’ve played about 70% through the game so far and will likely finish it by Friday or in the next 6 hours of game play judging it by what I’ve invested so far (about 10 hours).
Graphics,
I don’t normally like cell shaded games. PoP however is a damn fine looking game. It’s smooth and is well presented I can’t really find any major complaints with the game, it looks great, heck for cell shading I’ll go one further and say it looks down right amazing.
9/10 eye candy for sure
Game play & controls:
I don’t normally like the game play of a PoP game either all the running, jumping and crazy acrobatics usually annoyed me in previous games but in this one for some reason they’ve really refined how the game plays and controls. I’m in one word – “Impressed”
Everything does what it should and so far the only frustration I’ve had is that I make a mistake but it’s not that the controls are too tough they’ve balanced this game to a near “blizzard” (the developer) like polish.
9/10 I can’t help it, this game plays and controls like a vision.
Replay:
This would be the only fly in the ointment I think for PoP. I think I’ll be done my first play through in around 15 hours. I think if I tried to do absolutely everything there is to do and collect all 1001 light orbs (I have 600 or so now) it might take around 20 hrs.
I don’t know that there is anything to bring me back to the game after I finish it but I’ll update the review if any new modes or things of that nature pop up once I’ve finished it later this week.
5/10
I’m a skeptic that is now a believer. PoP is a damn fine game even for people that might not like the previous games like myself. I rented this game on Friday and bought it on Sunday so I think that speaks for itself. If you like adventure and action type games I think there is no finer game on the 360 at this time then PoP it really is a stellar product from Ubi Montreal.
Over all: 8.5/10
