FFVII makes a return (sorta) on the PSP with a prequel. >How does it stack up well here is an opinion
from JingleJangs. >

Gameplay/Story:
>This part of the review will be slightly
unfinished due to not being able to beat the game in 1 night. >If you played FFVII you know exactly where
this story is headed and how it is all going to end. >For me this does not ruin the journey at all
yet makes it more exciting. >Learning how
all the events in FFVII unfolded and exactly what happened to get there is very
interesting.Crisis Core is rumored to take> >>>about 10 hours of play to beat. That time I am assuming is for just doing
the main story mode and none of the side quest.
>So far I have been wrapped up in the game and definitely am intrigued
about the main characters. >I have no
idea what is going to happen next in the story but I am very eager to find
out. >I am hooked, that’s about all I
can say for now. >I am only about 2 hours. >

Game play its self has be criticized for being repetitive. >It is repetitive but no more so than other
RPG, MMO, or Hack N’ Slash imo. >This
game feels very much like the Kingdom Hearts game for the Game Boy Advance. >(If you have not played that I recommend it
btw.) >It’s a simple design that works
great for me. >The other big critic some
have had is the DMW. >

DMW = Digital Mind Wave. >Basically
it’s a slot machine that is constantly running in the upper left hand
corner. >If it matches up numbers or
pictures different things will happen. From summons, to limit breaks, to buffs
that can make you invincible. >I really
enjoy the DMW and how it randomly affects battles. >Some hate it for the lack of control it
offers. >I enjoy it and can’t wait to
see what other Pictures I unlock to add to its spinning wheels. >

Graphics: I know I said previously that God of War
had the best graphics now I am retracting my statement and going with Crisis
Core. >The in game graphics are good,
the in game cut scenes are good as well, and the full CG cut scenes are amazing. >They are on par with FFVII Advent Children
and some are direct cuts from them.
>Truly awesome stuff to see in the game.>

Sound: Do you like the music of the Final
Fantasy series? >Yes? Ok then

Just picked this up on the way home from work on Friday.

So far I've put in about 8 hours and I'm digging it. I don't think I'm too far along with the main story, but I've been hammering through the sidequests in an attempt to get as much materia as I can and level up. I'm at level 21 and I've just recieved the instructions on combining materia (just after the second summon encounter), so I am still in the "tutorial" stages andnot very far at all. Of course, when I do try and move over to the main story line, I am dominating since Ihave been leveling up on theside missions. This brings me to one criticism I have. The side missionsdo a nice job of telling you how difficult theymay be, compared to your level, but the main mission does not. Blowing through the second summon encounter without using acure or a potionkind of takes away from the experience.

The summon animations are incredible, but I wish I knew what triggered them. Quick question, can if I sell materia for SP, will that make the DMW move faster?

I really like the combat. I like trying to maneuver behind for the crits, and break away for a heal. I also like the added affect of the DMW bonuses like No MP and No AP. I'm really into the AP and melee combat, but itforces me to keep a spell or two on tap so that I can unload and reap the benefits of a No MP bonus.

With God of War and this, March was a fantastic month for the PSP.

im pretty hooked on this game. Cant stop doing the missions, have barely progressed the story. also the CS where Seph is fighting int he "training room" is totally fucking awesome. Have you found any interesting Materia fusions yet Wham?

I haven't found anything good yet. I've been sticking with the same setup of five or six materia that I like. I did experiment and make a "death sword" or something that I think was supposed to cause instant death but needless to say everyone is immune. Im not at the point where I can use items with the forging process, but I imagine that helps a bunch. Gamefaqs has some recipes but the FAQ reads like Japanese stereo instructions, so I gave up.

Thanks for the impressions. I won't have it for a few weeks, yet, but it sounds pretty good.

Are you guys finding the combat repetitive at all? (Conflict resoved!) [:D]

honestly im not. I find just that same as any turn based rpg. But since postioning is a big deal in this one its more interactive. Like if you get behind the enemy is a guaranteed crit with your melee attack. I love the combat and have not gotten bored with it yet at all. I have about 8-10 hours into the game at this point.

I enjoy the combat, as is.

You see a lot of the same maps when you do the side missions. In attempt to switch it up a bit, certain areas are inaccessible eachtime. So, the last encounter and thetreasure chests arenot always in the same places. I just came from Monster Hunter 2, which isn't exactly known for its map variety, so I don't mind.

While I like the idea of not having a party to control, only having one person in your party really limits the amount of materia you can use in battle andlevel up at a given time. Having a party would of course be impossible with this combat system, but it would allow you experimenta bit more. There are so many materia that I haven't even touched yet.

JingleJangs, were you able to find Gravity? I somehow skipped it and I have Graviga, but I need gravity to get the Magical Pot DMW.
