Can this be what Sharky mentioned? [^o)]
"So, what is to come in the next year of AGE? Lets just say we have a
little secret brewing that I think a lot of you may like. Here is a
little hint ... "if you like to play video games, and you like to talk
about them, then this tool will be very fun for you, and beneficial to
the rest of the community". Hmmmm ... did I just give it away? Only
time will tell. Let me just say it will be a nice addition to the site.
I think a lot of you will find it fun to use and beneficial to anyone
that visits the site."

No that isn't it Treek
Frosty the new version of Community Server completely revamped the PM system and added a Friends list and groups. Its supposed to go live 1st qtr and a beta should be available soon. Hopefully they added multiple recepients.

^ I was thinking some kind of chat room...
+1 for Frosty's suggestion though. What makes it even tougher is if you just try and copy and paste a PM into another one to another person it says the site does not allow duplicate messages. Makes it a pain when sending PMs to organize tourneys as you have to add a little personal intro...

HAHAHAHA, sorry that's just funny when someone says that.
Oh and I think that multiple messages would be great, if I knew I could send multiple harassments to friends, that would just brighten my day as well as the harassed.
I don't know if it'd be a full blown chat (unless some people have INSIDE INFORMATION), because I remember someone saying how it'd take away from the forums.. but at the same time, If it was small and applicable from many places, I think it'd be great for new users, if there was a bot that could answer peoples questions if they are too lazy/not in-tune enough to find out how to do things on their own. it'd be like this...
::Bagged2manyTimes joins AGE Chat::
Bagged2manyTimes: uh hello?
AGEBOT: Welcome to A.G.E. (Adult Gaming Enthusiasts)
Bagged2manyTimes: hi
AGEBOT: If you'd like to play Halo 3, sorry, nobody plays it anymore.
Bagged2manyTimes: perfect, because I don't play that game.
AGEBOT: Great, put COD4 in and you can find a game at any time
[8-|] (I <3 COD4.. just not as much as halo)

The next release of CS will allow this feature. You will be able to add as many recipients to a conversation as you want. It will be perfect for team strategies and tournament organizations.
As for the new feature: no chat, no podcast, no multi-PM tool ... keep guessing.
Hell, it may end up being nothing if Grumpy isn't able to get it work - I may not know shit [:S]

We’ve added support for private and public groups that support their
own membership, blog, forum, gallery, and pages. You can now easily
create mini-communities for friends or for your team. Web Services APIs.
Community Server 2008 includes a complete Web Services layer for
working with Community Server. This makes it even easier to share data
from within Community Server with other applications or tools. The Web
Services implementation is a RESTful implementation and we also include
a client library to include within applications that need to talk to
Community Server. Friends. We’ve completely
overhauled the friends functionality to make it easier to both manage
and add friends. You’ll find the friends behavior much more like
FaceBook’s friend functionality. Media Gallery.
We’ve merged the Photo/File Galleries into a single Media Gallery
application. The Media Gallery includes viewers for rendering images,
audio, video making it even easier to share content in your community. Message Streams.
New to Community Server is a message stream application that enables
multi-user conversations (formerly private messages), social streams
(similar to FaceBook), profile comments, and more. Enterprise File Storage.
We’ve completely overhauled file storage so all files are in a
Centralized File Store (includes both a File System and Amazon S3
provider). Widgets. Community Server now support shareable widgets in all sidebars. Simplified Permissions.
We’ve tried to simplify the rich permissions functionality that
Community Server has always been known for. All the previous
permissions capabilities still exist, but we’ve added some tools to
make it even easier to manage and apply permissions. User Experience.
We’ve started to introduce some new user experiences in both the
Control Panel and other aspects of the site. When Community Server 2008
ships you’ll find a much friendly and beautiful experience for both
running and managing your community. [/list]
Many, many additional new features, performance improvements, and bug fixes.

You won't find this in any measly stock list of features in CS 2008 ...
But a serious answer to the original question. We are "beta testing" a Private forum concept for the TF2 tourney and I plan on capturing feedback from the participants. My personal opinion for for any "groups" concepts is then we start fragmenting the AGE community and one of the things I like the most is the open flow of information. Keeps people honest [;)]
This private forum concept will only be used for orgazniational purposes so no private rooms for "Bourbon's private poncho party" or something like that [;)]

To be clear ... the private forums aren't the thing that Sharky and Grumpy are working out.

Not sure if it's all in this thread or not Az, but my main hope for multiple PM's is for confirmations for leagues and tourneys, etc. The current system is hard because it doesn't even allow you to just send the same PM to everyone, you have to modify it in some way so have add the names in the body. No big deal but would love if I could just add multiple addressees, especially if it kept all the responses in the same thread...

That is the plan for the Private forums ... each team gets a forum of their own to use for planning and strategery. Once the tourney's are over the forums are destroyed and so forth. There will be guidelines for usage but the forums will remain unmoderated so that prying eyes like me aren't tempted to spy on another team's planning. For example, I know that Jigsaw posted a picture of his nutsack in his team's forum and threatened his team with something involving foreheads ... well ... I stopped reading there to be honest..

That will be awesome for league teams as Google Groups is certainly much more finicky than AGE. I'm certainly looking forward to this.

Very nice to have but what Rabbit is asking for is a bit different and serves as different purpose. PM's by default generate an email thus it makes it a good way to get peoples attention that don't check the forums too often. Using a PM to confirm with people that they'll participate is done well before you'd ever break off an create teams and private forums. Doesn't matter if the responses to the multiple recipient PM are combine into one area, it is sending it that is a PIA.

^ What Flip said. I actually typed something similiar out but figured it would either come with the new version of Community Server or it wouldn't. Although if there is a setting about allowing duplicate PM's, turning that to allow duplicates would be nice.

I'm not discounting the enhanced PMs ... I am just dealing with what we have now with this version ... it will be a while before all the custom stuff is rolled into CS2008 ... anyway ... you can setup subscriptions to the forums. For my team, I sent out a PM for each member telling them to get into the private forum and use it going forward. Not ideally what you are speaking of above but better than Google Groups ... oh ... and it counts toward your post count [6]

Yes new version allow single PM to multiple people so this issue will be fixed once CS2008 is released and we upgrade
